No the way to check if there is someone in the union room is to go to the right of the entrance and click on th screen. It should say how many people are active in the room at that moment.

If you want it to work you have to be by trainers that you have already battled. They have to be on your screen. Use the Vs Seeker and the trainers that want a rematch will jump up and down or raise their hands. The Trainers that do not want a rematch will Have a speech bubble above their hed...
