You need to trade Boldore to get a Gigalith, I don't like Pokémon you need to trade. Otherwise Gigalith seems interesting, but not enough to be chosen before Excadrill.

I agree. My impression was that most Grass Pokémon came early in the game while the really good Fire ones came late.
