This is gonna sound ironic, but it's not an actual reality based game, you catch monsters in a different dimmension for lulz sake. I don't really think it matters if the Pokemon know how to talk or not so long as the main story of the game makes some sense.

Actually, now that I think of it, in the third generation and up, Splash might be a good attack if Magikarp is like at Lv. 100. You could find a legendary Pokemon, lower it's health with one Pokemon, switch out to Magikarp, and keep using Splash and potions until the timer ball has it's max...

I said it's impossible to beat the whole game in 8 hours. As in catch every Pokemon, beat all the gym leaders/Elite Four, etc.
