So I can't find an open source repo of this software. That would be useful for anyone wishing to make a derived piece of software. I'd recommend a CDDL or BSD license. The GPL is yucky.

Anyway...JRuby, as well as most other scripting languages for Java (including Java itself probably) use javax.script.

That should have the best support for Ruby on the JVM.
Also, Java works by interpreting any language into an intermediate representation, or IR. It is then compiled at runtime. So it's not going to slow anything down to use Ruby or JS on the JVM.

So why is MySQL the RDBMS? Why not SQLite or even a NoSQL like MongoDB?
Hopefully, there's a real answer to this.
SQLite is the embedded RDBMS used in all major web browsers, many embedded devices (I think they even use SQLite in ovens and other appliances.), and most client-side applications...
