Actually, the forums of Nintendo show a scan of the October '06 Nintendo Power saying that Mew will be available at Toys R Us on Sept 30 (however, that my only apply to the United States). The scan sure looks authentic, and I'm inclined to believe it.

I'm not completely sure on this one, but did you talk to the person in Slateport City again? Groudon comes before Kyogre, so you still need accessibilty to Kyogre, and it wouldn't be fair if fainting Groudon also jeoparidizes your chances of Kyogre.
