You have to also put Trainer(x) in the 'name' area, with x being the number of steps ahead they can 'see' the player. Here's a full event for one of my trainers in my game. The second page is just the after battle text, with self switch A being on.

I just upgraded the game to the newest version of Essentials the other day, finished mapping the Dragon wild zones (which only leaves Ice and Poison), and I will add in the last few pokemon after I finish those. Starting my first semester of College in a couple days so I may or may not have time...
