As far as I have learned throughout the ROM hacking scene, Nintendo doesn't really care unless if ROMs are being distributed. However, since we are operating throughout a system of patches, it's perfectly legal. Besides, Nintendo has absolutely nothing to gain by shutting down a small community...
I don't think I could have said this better myself. Add in originality in the scripting coupled with some well done maps, and it'd be a hack very worthwhile playing.
Besides, I am interested in how people really express themselves through their work rather than following the mold already set.
The unoriginality in hacks does me in the most. It almost always feels like a rehash of the original plot; never a new adventure. I am not even going to mention scripting, mapping, and etc. errors because it should be an expectation to have these errors fixed before the hack has a presentable...
