    Pokémon is not a shonen. Shonen anime are targeted exclusively at boys. The Pokémon anime was made with both genders in mind. It has some shonen elements tho.

    Iris, definitely. She and Ash are SO similar, they would make a PERFECT couple! Iris could even be part of Ash's elite 4 if he ever becomes a formal champ or vice versa.
