Those mean that you can encounter a "rare" pokemon at that tile (of course you'd need surf/or possibly a fishing rod for the ones in the water). It also happens with the "shaking" grass and dust clouds in caves. I've caught a baoppu and tabunne because of the shaking grass :)

The deal with the F/G/W platforms is that in order to advance to battle Dento, you must answer a question regarding those three types and step on the platform that best answers the question. From what has been floating around the internet it looks like Dento might be a grass type gym leader...

I think I remember hearing that it's called the "battle subway" and you battle random trainers there.

I'm considering ordering one in japanese and the other in english. I'm attempting to learn japanese right now but I'm sure I won't be even close to being fluent in it by september :P
