I always keep my starter. They tend to actually be useful later in the game, and early on too. Why give up a power house when it could help you out?

I always pick the male character, despite being a girl. I find the male design better looking, and I think that in every game the outfit the girl is wearing wouldn't do much good on a roughing it Pokemon adventure. I like the guys clothes better too (:

My favorite is Platinum. Actually, Platinum is my overall favorite game. I like Platinum mostly because I LOVEEE Sinnoh. And Platinum has the most features after the E4.
