I usually grab a certain six female pokemon to work with through the game, then use them as a basis to start breeding my post-E4 team for IVs and any egg moves I may want. No point in training your official team from the beginning, you can't exactly EV train while going through the plot. So...

I like both of those pokemon a lot actually. They've just got that cool factor to be perfectly honest. The cartoon talked me into liking Heracross at first, then Stadium 2 convinced me it was a good, solid choice considering megahorn and the popularity of psychic types at the time. And Ampharos...

I think the whole thing is fun, save the team rocket bit and being forced into caves... but as for 'exciting'? I was really excited to find new things here and there, and the nostalgia factor with the bug catching contest and some of the other events was great. I'm more excited with Pokemon...
