Just for anyone who finds this and is wondering why the link Lunos posted doesn't work, it's been changed: https://github.com/pret/pokeemerald/wiki/Debugging-using-printf
I hate to say it, but using the git pull method gives me a ridiculous number of conflicts. I don't suppose you have the SHA's of the relevant commits? I'm surprised that you've regularly been merging into that branch after completing the function, makes it quite hard to untangle.
The stairs...
OOPS, it somehow never occurred to me to check the Firered section for sprites that weren't in the Emerald section yet :P My mistake. Still, with respect, I hope you'll consider my Sigilyph sprite as an alternative.
Oh, damn, that Mega Aggron's a massive improvement over mine! Thanks so much for your continuing efforts :)
Which are you working on now? I was planning to do Mega Altaria and Mega Rayray, if they're not already in the works.
Hey, hopefully this is still active ^_^ I've come up with a rough Sigilyph sprite (could do with a little cleaning up) for which I hope to also make a second frame and convert to a Sugimori palette. How does it look at the moment?

Hey, not sure whether or not this thread is still active but I had a go at making a Mega Aggron sprite, which involved scaling down the Smogon one (all credit to aXI: https://www.smogon.com/forums/members/axl.30808/), shortening various horns and spikes and adjusting the position of the right...
Thanks again for your helpful responses so far! I may be foolhardy now but...

Ah, sugar, that is annoying - thanks for linking that page, I hadn't been able to find it before! It looks like I'd have to stitch twenty-five 16x16 sprites together to make one 80x80 sprite! (Or alternatively, nine 32x32 sprites). Maybe this isn't worth it.
Thanks very much for your patient...
I see, thanks very much for the detailed response! Boy, I really should have looked more into the hardware before just trying to code it. (Then again, hardware limitations have never been anything I've ever had to consider for coding projects.)
I may just be barking up the wrong tree here now...
Forgive me if my choice of vocabulary is improper; my understanding of tilemaps are, like OW maps and the World Map, an assignment of tiles from a tileset like the following:
to create a larger image called a tilemap:
