    Welcome to Art & Design
The idea here is to have a simple, concise, guide of rules. This is art. Art needs little restriction.

    rules.
    Before posting anything
Don't post other people's work, only ever showcase your own artwork and design. Do not post in a thread over 2 months old. Do not post request threads. Ensure that all your posts are constructive, and specific. Avoid saying "Wow I love your work", try to expand.

    Upon creating a gallery
If you wish to make a gallery in this section, there are a number of pre-requisites before you do so. To make a gallery here, you must have at least 4 examples in one medium. Meaning you must have 4 examples of Photography, Traditional or Digital art, from where you may add any number of examples from any medium. You must simply have 4 examples from the same medium to open a gallery. You may also have at least 8 examples of art, from all mediums, to make a gallery if you do not have 4 from the same.

Ensure that all work posted is not pornographic or offensive. Mild nudity, language or otherwise potentially mature content must be put in a spoiler tag with the inclusion of a warning tag.

    Upon opening a shop
Shops are threads in which you take requests from community members, based on the type of art you present and offer to create. You must have 4 examples of the type of requests you will be taking in the shop, and you may not charge for the work you do, shops are for free requests only, not commissions. Be sure to be detailed in the type of requests you will be taking, how many at a time, and perhaps also add a form for the users to fill out so as to make things more organised. Remember you always have the right to deny a request, based on the details of the request only.

    Upon starting a discussion
Ensure that your discussion is related to art, in the areas of Traditional, Digital or Photography. All Pixel Art related discussions go in the Pixel Art section. You may also make threads about how you feel the Art & Design section could be improved, or perhaps add some suggestions. You may also send a private message to the moderator(s) of the section if you wish to discuss any changes or suggestions you would like to recommend. You may not make a discussion to request art or graphics (look for an open shop), to display your signature, or show any piece of art in singularity. There will be relevant threads stickied in this section to showcase or request critique on small number of art pieces.

All contests, competitions and projects must be approved first, so PM a moderator of Art & Design to discuss what you wish to post first.

    Art Battles
These are contests in which can be a number of people facing one another, or teams. They involve one artist, or a group of artists sending out a challenge to battle under certain stipulations, these can be themes, the amount of participants allowed, size restrictions and time frame. Before making a battle, you can state the type of medium or not, or make it an open battle for all kinds of art forms. You must add how long you wish the time frame to be, what the participants will be making (the medium or not), and you may not use pieces you have previously shown or released. All battle pieces must be made for that battle specifically. If you have any questions regarding art battles, PM a moderator of Art & Design.

    commenting, criticizing, and requesting.
    Commenting
If you want to just comment on a gallery without having to go in depth about their work, just give examples of what you like and possible add why. Comments such as "Your stuff is cool" just wont cut it I'm afraid, you'll need to be somewhat constructive. You may comment on shops if you wish to but only if the member doesn't already have a gallery in which their work is showcased or if you need to ask them a question about their shop or work.

    Criticizing
When you are criticizing someone's work, be constructive, detailed and make sure you know what you're talking about. If you don't know a lot about A&D you can still crit but be sure you know what you're looking at and what you like and dislike. Do not flame anyone's work or bash/insult it in any way. This is art, it is meant to be appreciated no matter how abstract or different the artist may be. Try to be polite in how you say thing also, some members can take harsh crit better than others so try not to come off as rude. Same goes for those taking crit, be patient and know how to take it.

    Requesting
When requesting in a thread [Shop], be sure you follow the OP's rules and that you are not "demanding" anything. Remember that the shop owner is doing this out of their own free time and are asking for nothing but credit in return. If there are additional requirements in which you do not meet when requesting, you won't be permitted to use the graphics the OP made for you. Be patient and don't keep bugging them about when it is done. Though if you feel you were skipped politely post inquiring why that might have been if the shop owner did not state the reasons.

  • I think I need to emphasize something from Gav's post.

Rule against generic posts - "love your work" and "lol your awesome"

Posts that consist of merely "I love your work" or "Nice artwork" and their variations will be, more often than not, deleted. State which work you like/dislike and, most importantly, why you do so. Special emphasis on 'why'.

  • Update regarding the thread revival rule:

Threads can be revived by the owner if he/she wishes to do it - regardless of its age. As long as the owner has updates and wishes to revive his previous thread instead of making a new one, I do not see why he/she may be forbidden to do so. But it would be preferable if you notify the staff MEEEEE about it.

Shouldn't really be necessary to say it but I'll do it nevertheless - only the owners are allowed to revive their own threads and not others.
Please keep this in mind - the rule about not reviving threads older than two months still exists for others!

    Regards, Derozio
