  • The last thread of this was inactive, and I sorta want this thread to be aside from the connections speculations and the issue about the 3DS exclusivity, but, you know -- while people have been wondering about the speculation of the actual game, I'd like to see where the 3Ds can take this game. So, how can the 3DS functions work with X&Y? What sort of functions from the 3Ds would you like to see in the games?

If you want a brief reminder of them (if there's more, tell me, and I'll add them to the OP):

    StreetPass:

Social and wired like no Nintendo system before it, Nintendo 3DS brings fellow players together in exciting new ways with StreetPass™ communication. Set your Nintendo 3DS to Sleep Mode and carry it with you wherever you go to exchange game data like Mii™ characters, high scores, and custom characters with other users you pass on the street. You control what data you exchange, and you can exchange data for multiple games at once, making virtual connections with real world people you encounter in your daily life.

    SpotPass:

Your Nintendo 3DS system can automatically connect to a wireless internet access point. Once connected, special items will download automatically to your system via the SpotPass feature, even while in sleep mode. Some of these surprise items include exclusive content and promotions from Nintendo Zone™, unique 3D videos from the Nintendo Video™ service, and add-on game content from your favorite Nintendo 3DS games!

Not sure if you've received something? Look for the blue LED light on the outside of your Nintendo 3DS system or a blue dot on your favorite HOME Menu icon to find out what's been delivered to you.

    3D Camera:

The Nintendo 3DS system uses its two outer cameras to see the world in 3D, much like the human eye. This allows for the creation of 3D photos, 3D video, and even 3D stop-motion animations, that make for an eye-popping addition to your next photo op.

    Motion Sensor & Gyro Sensor:

Portable play control reaches a new level with these amazing features, allowing for new & unique gameplay mechanics. A built-in motion sensor and gyro sensor can react to the motion and tilt of the system, so whether players are twisting their systems side to side or moving them up and down, their motion-compatible Nintendo 3DS games respond instantly.

    Play Coins:

Play Coins are a feature on the Nintendo 3DS. The player can obtain them by walking; players earn 1 coin for every 100 steps taken and can earn 10 coins daily, for a maximum of 300 in their bank at any given time. You can also get Play Coins by shaking your 3DS. Plus, if you change the date, you can get more than 10 Play Coins a day. The player can then use them to purchase applications and special content for his/her Nintendo 3DS.

  • Out of all the functions included, I expect SpotPass and StreePass to be for sure. Motion controls have a possibility with some sort of ingame minigame or something (possibly as a game corner replacement or PokeAthalon might show up again).

The camera could possibly have some functionality in terms of getting event type pokemon (like, go to Gamestop, pick up an AR code / QR code thing and scan it with the camera and get an event pokemon but also get that physical card for collecting purposes).

I don't expect coins to be for ingame content, but they're probably going to make one of the 3DS puzzles for XY. :]

Streetpass and spotpass for tournaments if PWT makes a return. Secret bases, underground or new social thing is definitely going to come, that's a feature that could make some serious bank for GF, and I doubt they would skip on it.
Motion Sensor I could see them using it on top of the Eiffel Tower place. Like people were mention in the general thread, they should use the binoculars on top of the tower, and for those who want to use motion, they can turn a bit to the left and a bit to the right to look around the city.
Play Coins can be a hellish addition, cause I can see a lot features being used with such a concept.

  • I feel like StreetPass might (and hopefully will) replace the Friend Code system, seeing as it's god awful. I think the 3D effects might be used well for showing off the map designs when they want to. They already took steps towards with with Gen 5 with the different zooms when on bridges and in other areas, so with the 3D effects it could be even cooler.

Spotpass and the friends list on a system level will likely replace the Friend Codes, and not to mention Miiverse will also allow for more interaction with others.

That will be a giant improvement to the games. Everyone will have a profile linked to their games, as well as an easier recognition system than a nickname and a string of numbers and letters. Friend codes made sense at the time they were released, but with X/Y I really hope they use their new software to improve the multiplayer aspects of the games.

Speaking of the friend list, anyone else okay with the possibility of your Mii showing up on your trainer card somewhere? You know, the trainer will still be there, but on the back with your signature maybe your Mii can show up as well to give you more personalization.

Ugh no. I hate Mii's and I'd much rather just choose our sprites based on trainer classes. ;(

I said optional and on the back, the trainer sprite will still appear on the card. I also mentioned it cause if Miiverse integration is present, and you know its just begging to happen, it would be like Nintendo to have GF put the Miis somewhere in the game.

Oh right, sorry I was thinking trainer class like Nurse sprite appearing. But even on the back, while I'd hate it, yeah it likely is to happen. Mii's just seem so unncessary though and I hope Nintendo takes the step to make them less big by starting with Pokemon! /wishful

  • I'm not sure how the StreetPass and SpotPass features could replace the Friend Code system completely, since, well, not all of us wants to be friends with everyone. I believe the primary reason they created Friend Codes is so that we can add the people we only know, like how we add people in our Friend List in the 3DS; and I was thinking that the games should show if any of our friends are online, much like again how the 3DS notifies us if there's a friend online, so we trade or battle him or her at an appropriate time.

But anyways, for sure they'll implement the StreetPass and SpotPass features. StreetPass would be helpful if the games reintroduced again the Join Avenue (I really hope it comes back), or if you want to send Battle Videos to anyone you pass by. I was thinking of SpotPass to be used for getting Wi-Fi events, even at sleep mode; however, I know not all of you wants to get all events as much as possible, but I was thinking that we'd be given an option in Mystery Gift if we want to save the event into the game or not.

If the two games allows sightseeing the region, then the 3D Camera would be gladly used for it. I'd like to see various areas of the region in our own views, using binoculars perhaps, like in SM3DL. Getting events using the AR Code Viewer function of the 3D Camera could be useful, but kudos to those near game stores that give out events through AR codes. Eh, I still prefer SpotPass.

Motion Sensor & Gyro Sensor will be used in playing mini-games I suppose, or in certain puzzles within the story of the game. I'm not sure what they will be doing with Play Coins, but maybe to unlock some items or features.

  • I'd like the Motion Sensor act sort of like the PokeWalker in HG/SS, tbh; you know, where you're on like, a mini-adventure as you take steps onto the real world, and then, maybe you'll get a chance to actually encounter wild pokemon, or get new items. I'd love that feature~!

  • Oh my god I forgot that the Pokéwalker existed! That'd actually be a really cool feature with the Motion Sensor. It's a little less practical due to the size of the 3DS of keeping it on you as you're walking, but I could see it.

As other uses for it, I could imagine mini-games based on movement. Maybe something in the Game Corner or (as Aero said) the revival of the Pokéathlon, and moving the system and doing specific motions that'd correspond with each event. It'd be a pretty cool concept.

    Play Coins

The 3DS has grants you 1 "Play Coin" for every 100 steps you take while it is in sleep mode. Not many games use it. Do you think X and Y will find a way to use this feature? If so, how?

Because Pokemon has a history of trying to use every possible feature a system has to offer, I'm pretty sure it will do is. I think that they would be used on some type of mini game, like the casino (I hope they bring it back, but I doubt it.) Maybe even as an alternate way of buying prizes or even getting discounts at shops.

With the discussion of Play Coins covered, I've moved your thread here.

I definitely think Play Coins is an open option for GameFreak to utilize. It could be their way of re-utilizing what they once had with the PokéWalker back in HG/SS.

  • I don't know if this is practical at all, but it'd be cool to see the Play Coins maybe used to customize whatever gear we get this generation. Sort of like the Pokétch, and you can use them to buy different apps like DPP had? You're not paying for anything, and all you have to do is walk around a little bit to earn the coins. Seems like a cool way to implement them.

  • Maybe the play coins could be used be used to purchase miscellaneous things like figurines or extra pokemon hats for your mii. Eh, personally, I don't see much use for them myself.
