[Other] Is there any way to get an existing save file working with an extended saveblock in Emerald?

I used the method described in Step 1 of this post to expand the save block, and then used Dizzy's Item Expansion to increase the maximum amount of items that the main pocket of the bag can hold to 64. Though currently I have no easy way to test it due to existing save files not working with it, so I wanted to know if there was a way to get an existing save file working with an extended saveblock.
