Hey guys, I had this idea for a ROM hack that is a hybrid of Pokémon and Kingdom Hearts.
I came up with a quick "something" of what it would be, looking for feedback before I get more involved in it - is this something people would be interested in playing?
About Unchained Key
Unchained Key (placeholder title) is a unique hybrid story between the Pokémon and Kingdom Hearts universes. The game begins in a new world known as 'Destiny Islands' and through a well-structured narrative will drive you to new and exciting interconnected worlds.
How does it work?
The universe of Unchained Key is a collection of various levels, referred to as "worlds", through which you must progress. There are currently 13 planned worlds for you to explore in Unchained Key. Ten of these worlds are based on famous stories that you may already be familiar with (such as Aladdin and Alice in Wonderland). Each of these worlds will feature a mini-story that is unique to that world, and will feature well-known characters and quests from the original inspiration for the world, whilst also tying into the larger overall story arc.
The story…
You (Sora) are separated from your friends Kairi and Riku when your world, Destiny Islands, is invaded by creatures known as the Heartless. During the invasion, losing Kairi, you obtain the Keyblade, whilst Riku accepted darkness and was dragged into the abyss. Soon after finding himself in Traverse Town, Sora meets Donald Duck and Goofy, two emissaries from Disney Castle searching for the "key" per instructions from Mickey, their King. You and your new friends work together and travel across the worlds, sealing the Keyholes to the hearts of the worlds to prevent more Heartless invasions.
The Heartless
Heartless is the term given to entities born from the darkness within a Pokémon's heart. The heartless form allows the Pokémon to switch their typing to suit their environments and scenarios (for example, a heartless born from the darkness in Bulbasaur may have a water type). Heartless Pokémon tend to have a different appearance to standard Pokémon and are more common in places that are close to or are saturated in darkness. Upon their destruction, they simply disappear in puffs of darkness. Recently, scientists have discovered that Dark Balls can be used to capture these Pokémon. In order to eliminate the heartless from each world and allow normal Pokémon to return home, you must seal the heart of the world using your Keyblade.
