I've always loved journaling Pokémon games, it's actually why I joined this site. So I've decided to journal my first playthrough of Pokémon Sword! I was excited to play it the second it came out and have already made some progress so the first day will be long and in several updates. These games have a lot to explore!

    Day 1, Part 1

I start my journey sitting on my couch watching a match between a trainer and the reigning Champion of the Galar Region, Leon. Just then, I'm greeted by my enthusiastic and charismatic friend, Hop. He tells me he's waiting for his champion brother Leon to arrive home in Postwick. I grab my dad's old bag in my room and head over to Hop's place to meet Leon.

When we get to his house, Hop's mom tells us that he needs to pick his brother up from Wedgehurst cause he tends to get lost, so I tag along to route 1, avoiding Pokémon on the way. When we arrive at Wedgehurst, we are greeted by a large crowd of people at the train station. They cheer vicariously as the reigning champion Leon emerges from a train with his prized unbeatable Charizard. Hop calls for his brother in the sea of people bringing them to a soft murmur. After a little speech to his fans, Leon is led back home by his brother and me, his new friend Aaron.

Back at Hop's home in Postwick, Leon tells us he has a very important present for us. A very special Pokémon to start our journey! I looked over the three options and picked the adorable little grass monkey named Grookey. Hop picked next and choose a sad and anxious water chameleon named Sobble. Hop and I discuss taking on the Gym Challenge with our new Pokémon. We decided to think it over after a nice meal and a good night's sleep.

The next day Hop and I feel like we bonded well with our new buddies overnight. He suggested we have our first Pokémon battle to see how strong that bond was. Grookey and I managed to take down his already owned Wooloo easily and his Sobble after several turns. He admitted that while his loss was embarrassing, he still had a long way to go before he could become strong enough to defeat his brother and become Champion! After our battle, I headed back home to tell my mom about our journey. However, on the way, Hop and I discovered a Wooloo broke down the gate blocking the notoriously dangerous Slumbering Weald and escape. So we dropped everything and chased after the guy. Entering the Slumbwring Weald was no difficult task. But the further we strolled through, the foggier and creepier it got. We could barely see anything! While on the search for Wooloo, in the middle of the dreaded fog, a mysterious cry called out. Out of the fog, merged an unknown wolf-like Pokemon I've never seen before. Hop suggested attacking it with my freshly caught Grookey. When commanding Grookey to use Branch Poke on the creature, it vanished and reappeared before our eyes. It was an illusion! After several attempts to attack it, the mystical Pokémon vanquishes in the fog. The shock of everyone causes us to faint, only to awaken to Leon and the missing Wooloo. After scolding us for getting lost, Leon takes us home. Back at Postwick, I head to my place to tell my mom about my new gym challenge with Grookey! At home, my mother hands me enough cash to begin my journey, heals my Pokémon, and sends me on my way to Route 1!

Route 1 was blocked by Wooloo. The obnoxious buggers forced me to traverse into the tall grass. After avoiding wild Pokemon and battling a few trainers, I finally made it to Wedgehurst. Upon my arrival, I was greeted by Leon, who told me I should visit Professor Magnolia in her Research Lab. After exploring the town a bit, I headed over there. I overheard from some of the townspeople that Professor Magnolia lived at a cottage on Route 2. At the professor's research lab, I meet her assistant and granddaughter Sonia and her adorable electric corgi Pokemon Yamper! Sonia introduced herself and gave me a rundown of her studies. She made a remark about my Rotom Phone and installed the Pokedex on it. We chatted a little longer and soon I was out of there and made my way to Route 2 to meet Professor Magnolia.

When I finally made it to Route 2, I ran into Leon who seemed to be lost cause he knocked me over. He apologizes, he gave me 20 Poke Balls and was on his way. Moving on, I battled my first trainer ever! A youngster named Jake and his Skwovet. We did a few more battles until I reached Magnolia's house. Upon meeting her, she asked me and Hop about the Gym Challenge. Leon explained that in order to compete in the Gym Challenge, a trainer must be endorsed by another trainer. We made a deal with us that if he witnessed a battle between me and Hop, then he may consider endorsing both of us. So I went ahead and battled Hop. This battle was harder than our first match cause I was faced with three Pokémon vs my Grookey. However, we still managed to beat him on the first try! Nevertheless, Leon agreed to endorse us and so we made the journey to Monostoke to register for the Gym Challenge! But first Hop and I had to race back to Wedgehurst so we can board the train at the station. On my way back I decided to finally catch my very first Pokémon. My very own Yamper who I named Cheddar! Evading the grass once more, I caught up with Hop at the train station. The real journey was about to begin.

  • Hey so I don't want to waste time writing a whole long ass story, so I'm gonna just give bullet points instead cause it's easier. So here's part 2 of day 1!

    * We arrived at Wedgehurst Station and got on the train. The train was derailed cause Wooloo were blocking the tracks so we stopped at the Wild Area, giving us a chance to explore it for the first time.
    * Received the Eevee from my Let's Go data at the station! Named him Evo.
    * Forgot to mention that while in Route 2 I also caught a Nickit nicknamed Nicki and a Rookidee nicknamed Rookie. Original I know.
    * Wild Area is so cool! I want to wait a while before doing a max raid battle, but eventually, I will give it a try!
    * Camping is so cute! Loved playing fetch with Cheddar the most! His adorable jumps and the way attacks when playing with the toys.

    * Didn't do much in the Wild Area beside the camp, so we made our way to Motostoke.
    * At Motostoke we meet up with Sonia who handed me a League Card and explained how to edit it with the Card Maker.
    * Explored Motostoke a little bit before going to register for the Gym Challenge and received the Hi-Tech Earbuds
    * Did some window shopping at the boutique and went to the salon and got a fresh cut and brand new eye color

    * Loving the clothing options in the game.
    * Made my way to the stadium to register. Choose 92 as my jersey number cause it's my birth year 1992!

    5TQqrN1.jpg

    * Was told that I must check in to the Budew Drop Inn to rest up for the Gym Challenge opening ceremony.
    * At the Budew Drop Inn, I ran into Sonia who told me of the legend of a hero who rescued Galar from darkness and had my first encounter with Team Yell and Marnie. Still, wish this new evil team had some more personality other than being obsessed fans but maybe they will develop further into the story.
    * Was escorted to the stadium the next morning and participated in the opening ceremony. After a quick introduction from Chairman Rose, I met the Gym Leaders and was sent off to face the first one in Turrfield.

Hey so I fell far behind on this but want to keep journaling so I'm gonna skip ahead a lot and forget about giving a lot of details on the first two gyms. I haven't played a lot cause I keep telling myself to update this and writing it takes a while and I end forgetting about making any actual progress. 😅 So I'm gonna just summarize it from Turnfield Gym.

    Day 1, part 3
    • · Before moving on I explored Motostoke a little, talked to a few trainers, and searched for as many items as possible.
    • · Learned about Technical Records aka TRs. I really don't know what to think of them. I like the throwback feel to them, but the single-use is the one part I don't miss about TMs.
    • · Made a trip back to Wedgehurst so I can do some more
    • shopping for clothes I wanted to get earlier. I bought the black striped white shirt and black-framed glasses.
    • · Made my way back to Motostoke so I can finally move on. Before going to Route 3, I am greeted by no other than Hop! He did his usual rant about being a legend and becoming champion and he challenged me to a battle. He was easier to take down this time! Especially with Cheddar and Nuzzle.
    • · Proceeded to route 3 after the battle and battled a few trainers
    • · Took a short break by visiting another player's camp! Becca's Bounsweet was so adorable and loved playing with the ball so much! :D
      HQP2MO2l.jpg

    • · After playing with Becca and her Pokemon in her camp, we felt well-rested and happy! It was time to go to Galar Mine.
    • Galar Mine·
    • Before entering the mine, a nice lady healed our Pokemon. She said her sister was on the other side of the mine healing trainers who make it out. How nice!
    • Found a very hidden path that leads back outside. There I found Rock Blast!
    • Battled a few trainers in the mine until I ran into a mysterious trainer named Bede. Asshole bragged about getting Chairman Rose as an endorsement so I kicked his ass. His Psychic types were fairly easy with my newly evolved Thievul!
    • Honestly love him so far it's nice to have a jerk rival again I missed it. After beating Bede and making a new rival, I head out the mine and made my way to Route 4.

    Route 4
    • Battled the trainers in Route 4 and picked up the items and ran into this crazy guy
      QP3QeTvl.jpg

    • I'M STILL AHAHHAHAHAHAHA THIS DUDE IS EVERY NECKBEARD IVE SEEN IM I LOVE IT
    • I also caught a Pikachu! I think it's become my tradition to catch at least one Pikachu in every game.
    • After that we headed on Turffield.

    Turffield
    • Was greeted by Hop again once I arrived at Turffield. So annoying!
    • Walked around picked up a few items and then met up with Sonia. She gave me a brief history on Galar, gave me some revives and sent me on my way.
    • Did some more exploring and decided it was finally time to take on the Turffield Gym Leader Milo!
      • Upon entering the Gym, I met with the Ball Man who gave me a Friend Ball. Love this guy already!
      • Finally, showtime!! I talked to the receptionist to start my first ever Gym mission! We changed into our uniform and let the mission begin!
      • Herding the Wooloo wasn't too hard. I had trouble with the last one but finally completed it after some time.
      • I honestly the new missions for Gyms. It reminded me of the Trail challenges but still incorporates the puzzles from previous gyms.
      • After defeating the puzzle and the trainers along the way it was time to met Milo!

Hi I love my boyfriend Milo

      • With my Corvisquire, I took him down fairly easily. He used Dynamax on his Eldegoss, which forced me to Dynamax him. Honestly wish they didn't force me to use a feature I hated since it was announced. So gimmicky!! Nonetheless, I won and earned the Grass Badge!
      • After the battle, I received MagicalLeaf from a staff member and all that was left to do was head to Route 5 and Hulbury!

  • Hulberry

Okay! Time to play catch up so I can actually play the game. Now I will try to actually keep track of my progress as it happens, but for now, here's a summary.
After beating Milo, I headed to route 5

    • Not much to do here, but I did have another battle with Hop! Got to meet his now evolved Sobble aka Drizzlie. I kinda like his design. I know his final evolution was disappointing but for once I like a mid evolution. After the battle, he gave me a Revive.
    • After our battle, I decided to check out the Pokemon Nursery! I decided to drop off the Eevee I got from Lets Go and headed on to Hulbury.
    • At Hulbury I am greeted by Chairman Rose's assistant Oleana. She tells me Chairman Rose wants to meet with me but only after I defeat the Gym Leader Nessa.
    • I wasn't ready to take on the Gym, so I looked around a little. I explored the beach and bought some herbs from the market.
    • Eventually, I made my way to the lighthouse and met with Nessa. We talked for a while and then I finally decided to face her in a battle!
    • Loved her Gym. It reminds me of the classic puzzles from some of the previous gens but also reminds me of the trials to an extent. The puzzle took a few tries but eventually, I figured it
    out.
    • I wanted to take down Nessa without Dynamaxing, which proved to be harder than I expected. I almost lost the first try, but I still to achieve my goal with my trusty Thwacky and Cheddar.

    Team after Nessa

    • After beating Nessa, it was time to take care was some business. I met up with Rose at the seafood restaurant. Rose was incognito. We talked a while about how Dynamax works and the history of it and he sent me on my way. Time to go back to Motostoke! But first I must go through Galar Mine 2.

    Galar Mine 2

    • Inside the mine, I meet another member of the family, Aiden the Scraggy! I had a Scraggy on my White team and it easily became one of my fave fighting types so I had to include him!
    • After battling a Worker trainer, I ran into my rival Bede again. He was wayyyy easier this time cause I had both Scraggy and Thievul to take him down.
    • I traversed through the mine some more, battling trainers as I went and picking up any item in my path until I met with Team Yell who just taunted me for a while until Hop showed up. We teamed up together for a double battle and took them down easily though!
    • After we took care of Team Yell, Hop and split paths and made our way out of the mine.
    • I battled Rail Staff Vincent and found Hop once again. He was talking with no other than the Gym Leader of Motostoke, Kabu. While we were chatting, we were approached by Team Yell again, but Kabu sends them on their way. He challenges us to battle us in his Gym in Motostoke so we make our way out the mine continuing to the outskirts of Motostoke.
    • Battled a few trainers in the outskirts including this cute officer who's greeting made me chuckle cause of how British it is.
      WH7F1g8l.jpg

    • After crossing the bridge in the outskirts, we made it back to Motostoke.
    • I decided to head back to Budew Inn to rest. But when we arrived at the inn, we were approached by Marnie. I had my first evert real battle with her. I noticed she had mostly Dark-types which made me curious but still made her easy to defeat with Scraggy. After the battle, I decided to rest up before taking on Kabu.
    • Team so far
