Yup, as long as you can do it within that hack. Such as Charmer; you'd need a hack(even one you finished) that has Contests fully working to complete. There should be a hack for any challenge you'd need I'm sure. ;)

Update 1: Choose Charmander due to it being the most popular starter. Named it Moegami. Caught everything en route to Pewter City, making Katie the Pidgey the second member. Beat Brock with Metal Claw spam. Caught everything en route to Cerulean City. Made it to Cerulean City and went north immediately to gain experience for Misty. Got S.S. Ticket and challenged Misty, she fell easily. Went to Vermillion City and caught some pokemon. Went into Diglett's Cave and caught both a Diglett and a Dugtrio. Didn't like the moveset on the Dugtrio so made Don Mole Diglett next team member, due to the fact that many people liked to pick up a Dugtrio for the Third Gym. Cleared S.S. Anne and Lt. Surge easily. Decided to make Nidoran Male next team member as it was popular among early pokemon fans due to a wide movepool. Trained some pokemon I had in PC to fill up Pokedex. Went to Lavender Town, catching everything along the way. Went to Cleadon, did catching gig, cleared Rocket Hideout, Cleadon Gym, and Pokemon Tower. Evolved some pokemon and got abra from casino using all the free tokens from people and on the floor.

Update Fire Red 2:
Went to Fuschia, caught everything in Safari Zone, including Dratini and Dragonair. Beat Fuschia Gym, surfed to Cinnabar via Seafoam Islands, caught pokemon, made it to Cinnabar. Picked up Lord Helix the Omanyte. Got Aerodactly. Battled all trainers from Pallet to Fuschia. Went to Power Plant, caught pokemon. Tackled Sliph Co. Beat Sabrina, Pokemon Manison, Cinnabar Gym, and sevi islands part 1 no problem. Trained some pokemon, both team-wise and for pokedex completion. Beat Viridian Gym no problem. Caught a few pokemon on the way to Indigo Plateau. Dragonair Evolved into Dragonite(broke no held items rule to give exp. share to speed up progression. Beat Elite 4 and Champion. Cleared Volcano for Ruby easily. Went to Four Island, bred Eevee and Hitmonlee, got remaining eeveelutions and Hitmonchan. Cleared remaining portion of story in Sevi Islands. Got an extra moon stone for the second to last pokemon I could get without cheating. Went into cerulean cave, master ball's mewtwo. Unless I missed an incredibly Rare pokemon, I caught all 125 pokemon I could get without trading or cheating. Run Ended with max friendship with team members.

Update 1: Selected Light Platinum due to it having a gift pokemon in nearly every town and city making it perfect for the Exchanger's Challenge. To add difficulty, shoved in Trainer's Challenge so I don't have a perfect team of gift pokemon. Empathizer's is there to knock out one more. Must clear the game's two pokemon leagues and world championship. Selected Charamander as starter and ditched him since I didn't feel like using a Charizard again. Picked up the gift Elekid in Yellow Town. Game is weird and requires you to head to the name rater to name gift pokemon. Will name Elekid Akihiko(Persona 3) when the chance is given. Got professor oak to head to yellow town. Met him in Central City and recieved Cyndaquil from him. Will name it Yukiko( Persona 4). Went to Inhore City, went back to Inhore forest to clear team steam. Went to Inhore University and picked up who will come to be know as Kirito(SAO) the Treeko. Beat the 1st gym (bug) with Yukiko. Picked up gift Miltank. Made it to Esmerald City. Picked up gift Zorua, who will be know as Nera( Dragon Quest V).

Light Platinum Update two: Beat Esmerald City gym with Yukiko, made my way to seanport, picked up gift Larviatar, but have no plans to use it. Made it to Seanport City, picked up Rundus(metroid prime 3) the Lapras. Defeated more of team steam, cleared gym here no prob. Made my way to Dardusk. Once there, picked up gift Dratini and Drifloon, no plans to use. Trained all team members to level 40 before Dardusk Gym. Made my way through annoying gym. Nera the Zorua proved invaluable. Defeated more team steam guys in a tower in Dardusk. Made it to Mount Sheum, convinced Crazy guy named Zero to give me a Deino, named Cersei(Game of Thrones). Groment city gym proved no trouble for Rundus and Kirito. Got to serenity city, trained everyone to lv 55 for now. Akihiko the Electrivire destroyed the Serenity Gym with earthquake. Went into Mt. Snowstorm and fought team steam again. Beat Snowce gym, left off here

Since my games got destroyed on a broken Tablet a whie back, I kinda lost track of my challenge, but Im gunna try to keep better eyes on it this time and restart my attempts back at the beginning. I wake up from a long slumber excited that I'm going to get my first Pokémon
My two best friends Cheren and Bianca come running through my door with a package containing three pokemon. because it was my birthday they let me pick my pokemon first. I picked Oshowott because I have always liked water type pokemon. Bianca chose tepig and then Cheren picked Snivy. I was suddenly got asked to battle by Bianca and Cheren I quickly beat them both and then we headed to professor Juniper's lab. At the lab she gave us all a pokedex and she taught us how to catch wild pokemon. She also gave us five pokeballs each. now I was left alone on route 1 with my Oshowott that I named ShellBurn. At the end of route 1 I found my first pokemon, lillipup, I caught him and named her Penelope . I made my way to Accumula town and had a strange encounter the a group called team Plasma and had a battle with a strange guy named N. after the battle I trained my pokemon a bit and then I took a nap. While I was taking a nap I was told if my pokemons health reaches 0 they will die and I can only catch the first pokemon on each route and if I don't beat the champion he will kill my Mom and my Dad and if I loose a single pokemon battle I would be killed. I wake up scared listen to his instructions. I made my way down to Route 2 where I encountered a purloin, with my mom and dads life on the line, I knew I had to catch this pokemon. For some reason the purloine didn't fight and went into a single pokemon, I named her Bella. I found out she didn't like to battle so I respected her wishes and kept her as a friend, not a fighter.when I got to Striaton citywere I found myself in a battle with cheren and Bianca, I esily beat them, after the battles I went to the dream yard to triand where a little girl gave me the fire monker pansear to help my oshowatts weakness to grass.i named him flaming poo because he poops fire. after I obtained fire poo I challenge the gym leader Cilan were I almost lost flaming poo to a pansage but I was able to beat him and get the Trio badge and that's all that happened so far ill make sure to keep this updated.
