  • =====Introduction=====
    Hello, I am Zephadus, and I am writing this to tell you all...
    You need to stop and think before making a Pok?mon game.
    We'll be going over different aspects as we move through each chapter,
    so pay attention, and learn all that you possibly can from good ol' Zeph.

    ====Chapter 1: Title====

    I am getting really sick of everybody calling their game:
    "Pok?mon [color here] Version"

    There's this thing that I like to call: "Originality"

    Keep in mind that the official Pok?mon games don't all use colors.
    As a matter of fact, the only ones that do are Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow.
    Gold and Silver are metal materials, and Ruby and Sapphire are gems.

    Take our game as an example: It's called "Pok?mon: Evolution of Time".

    Keep thinking, and eventually, you'll come up with something.

    ===Chapter 2: Effort===
    Keep in mind that there is a lot of work to be put into a Pok?mon game.
    First there's the Pok?mon themselves. There are nearly 400 of them!
    Then there's the battle system.
    If you want to use the traditional battle system... Good luck!
    It's nearly impossible to make, and it takes a lot of work and effort.
    You'll be better of using the default battle system, however,
    you'll end up with 4 Pok?mon fighting at one time if you do it that way.
    The only logical explanation is to use a Custom Battle System for battles.
    You can find one in progress here, and a tutorial here.

    ===Chapter 3: Towns===
    This is more or less covered in chapter 1, but as i said before, not colors.
    Sure you've got Saffron and Fuchsia, and maybe Violet and Lavender, but there's also Rustboro, CherryGrove, NewBark, and Celadon.
    (I'm really not whether Celadon is a color or not, but you get the point.)
    Also keep in mind that not every town should have a Pok?mon Center/Mart.
    Sure, it's usually the first town, but why not add some spice to things?
    How are you supposed to fly to a place if it doesn't have a Pok?mon Center?
    Well that's the whole challenge aspect! And that could use a new chapter...

    ==Chapter 4: Challenge==
    Any good game needs some challenge to it, and most of the time, Pok?mon just doesn't have it... I mean sure, there's types to worry about, but I'm sure that all of us, or at the very least, 80% of us mastered types in Red and Blue.
    Adding new types wasn't a big deal for most of us...
    "Hmm... Steel stype, huh? ...Charizard, Fire Blast! Ooh, burned!"
    You see, that wasn't challenging at all!
    What these games need is something that takes your mind to different places.
    Why not make a town that there is no escape from once you enter,
    unless you defeat all of the trainers that belong to a group of people in town.
    And I don't mean Team Rocket, either.
    Maybe there could be a bike gang that's just mean, and they don't want to let anyone leave to tell the police about their acts of vandalism?
    Whatever the case, add something that the player has to overcome in order to progress.
    Most of the time I can just leave and play as I wish, but what if I couldn't?
    I'd have to overcome this ridiculously hard portion of the game in order to get back to my normal, everyday Pok?mon collecting.
    And that brings me to chapter 5!

    ==Chapter 5: Pok?mon...==
    There are many Pok?mon these days. Almost 400 of them!
    But for the time being, we'll say you only want the first 151 of them. Classic.
    So you make 152 characters in your database, all from Bulbasaur to Mew,
    and then a single character for your hero.
    You are now capable of catching all 151 Pok?mon in your game! Sweet!
    Guess what? You can only catch 1 of each...
    This is because you have ONE character assigned for a single Pok?mon.
    1 Bulbasaur, 1 Ivysaur, 1 Venusaur, 1 Charmander, 1 Charmeleon, etc.
    So what do you do? You multiple copy all 151 (not 152) of them,
    and paste them below the hero's character slot at 152. Cool.
    So now you can catch 2 of each! Totally awesome, but guess what?
    Now you've got the choice of genders or no genders! Crazy cool!
    So you decide to make those Pok?mon you just copied into females,
    and leave the others as males, which is all fun and games, until...
    Baby Pok?mon! Who would've thought? Cool concept, so why not?
    "Oh well, it's fine. I'll just paste another 151 Pok?mon!"
    So now your Pok?mon can have babies. Score! That's pretty cool.
    Guess what, though? You have single-gendered babies!
    "And again, I'll just paste, and viola! Male and Female babies!"
    ...And by now, you've got 605 characters. Is that ever a lot or what?
    So here's what you do... Now that you've got a bunch of Pok?mon,
    you paste some more 2 by 2 for Males and Females until you have 4833 characters, and therefor, 32 of each Pok?mon.
    I mean, unless of course you don't think anyone will catch 32 Pidgeys.
    So now you've got 151 Pok?mon x32. But now I bet if you thought about it,
    you've realized: "Hey, there's only one Mew/Mewtwo/Zapdos/Aerodactyl..."
    And guess what? You can delete all those spares to make room!
    Thing is, you'd have to redo all of that stuff again. Haha. So it's not worth it.
    You're only gaining about 300 more Pok?mon, anyway.
    That's just another pair of Males and Females. Besides, 32 is a cool number!
    The only problem with having like, 4512 possible Pok?mon is...

    ===Chapter 6: Storage===
    Yeah, we all knew we'd have to deal with this somewhere along the line...
    It's incredibly hard and time-consuming to make one of these work,
    especially when we're dealing with more than like, 12 characters.
    This kind of thing really does require a custom Pok?mon Storage menu.
    I personally plan to make one of these, however, until then, good luck!
    Mine is going to deal with over 400 Pok?mon as opposed to 151,
    so I'm only going to be able to own a dozen (12) of each Pok?mon,
    which sounds like a reasonable number if I do say so myself...
    This is all because RPG Maker only allows 5000 characters in the database.
    At least mine does. Others (hacks) may vary. Not sure about RM2K, though.
    I happen to be using RPG Maker 2003, so I don't know how many are allowed.

    More coming soon! ...Maybe?
    (can anyone else think of another chapter to add?)

  • Submit this to the area of PC where you can submit guides and stuff! The Technical Institute I think it's called. But no, I'm not sticking this because this forum isn't exclusively for Pokemon games. Your best bet for getting this seen is through the technical institute.

  • Looks nice so far, keep working on it.

    That's why I called my Pokemon game (which I haven't worked on in awhile) Rising Moon :P

    Umm... Would it be possible to have someone move it there,
    or should I just repost it there? :\

  • Just a note, but as for the 5000 characters, I tried it with 500, and the game took TEN MINUTES to get to the title screen. I finally figured out that that was why. Just a warning, but all those characters will make your game lag like WHOAH!

    Well, that'll depend on each person's computer. However, it wouldn't do any harm by thinking of the people with old computers.
