I absolutely love this shot. Honestly, the contrast is ridiculously perfect. I honestly like how the sun duplicated too, it makes me think of Bokeh style art. Could you maybe talk me through that shot, how you did it and was there any techniques you added? It's a great piece. Some of your stuff is great, I particularly like the boat piece also. The focal is nicely evident in an otherwise busy area, and that took technique

  • Wow thanks!! umm, I'm not sure if there was much technique involved lol. I just lined the shot up and the camera did most of the work. No tripod either. So yeah :/

  • And another thing, in this picture, did you re-size the image or something? It looks really blurred and a low quality picture. =\

I think they have all been resized.

You have some lovely work here, Tom. I don't think they really need to be critiqued, since I can't see much wrong with them.
The only one I can see that has a little bit of strange focusing is:

I think if you were able to focus on the whole line of birds, that would have made it a very interesting picture.

    Keep it up.

  • Your focusing let you down on the last two pictures. The back end of the dragonfly (I assume it is) is blurred and I feel the whole body should be in crystal focus.
With the last picture, if I am honest, the focusing is lazy. Only having a very small focal point at a shallow depth. If you had spent a little more time on the butterfly, then it would have been nice.

I get the feeling that you point and click at some of these. I recommend you should take some time to survey the area/object/whatever you are photographing and then decide what settings are needed.

Also, you should participate in some of the photography competitions that will be going on around here. I would like to see you in them! :3

  • You are right in everything you said, It's not often I take much amount of time setting up the shot properly. I'm going to college in September to study photography so that should help a lot. Another thing is, with wildlife (especially insects etc) they don't like to hang about for long, so I tend to rush the picture.

Some of this stuff just blows my mind. The rest is almost at that level too. This stuff is beautiful and artistic. Nice compositions!
