History and mysteries await in the Ciele region!

As a promising student of "Pokémon cryptozoology" – cryptopokéology for short – you're flying in from Unova to meet with Professor Bohun, Ciele's curmudgeonly Pokémon Professor.

Like the Loch Ness Monster and Bigfoot in our world, Cryptid Pokémon have been a fixture in the Pokémon world's folklore for centuries. Ciele has the highest number of rumoured specimens by far, and Professor Bohun is convinced he's on the brink of figuring out why.

In Pokémon Cryptid, you'll set out to explore an unfamiliar land, aided only by a ragtag team of local Pokémon (some of which aren't quite how you remembered them). But with Team Carbon doing its best to publicly discredit Bohun – and Pokémon Hunters lurking around every corner – do you have what it takes to solve Ciele's mysteries and prove the Cryptids' existence once and for all…?

Remixing an 18-year-old game doesn't mean settling for 18-year-old game design. We're leaving no stone unturned to bring Pokémon Cryptid into the modern age.

• We've designed four brand new fonts, and tuned them pixel by pixel, to make the game's text clearer and more readable.
• Our revamped menus are easier to navigate, with clearer instructions and fewer visual distractions.
• More inclusive character customisation means all kinds of Trainers will feel at home in Ciele! Choose your pronouns, appearance, and skin tone separately.
• New Trainer Explainers will help anyone who's ever been "subjected to Torment" by vague descriptions that read like they've been "cloaked in a mystical veil!" We've rewritten hundreds of lines of battle text to make strategic battling more accessible to everyone.
• And you'll find many quality of life improvements from newer Pokémon games – some of which you won't find in other ROM hacks.

Ayuda! How you can help

Pokémon Cryptid is still in early development, and we're looking for all sorts of people to give us a hand. We need:

• Sprite artists - for human characters, cryptid Pokémon, and regional forms
• Campaign design - a team to ensure the level curve is suitable
• Coders - anyone with experience in coding ROM hacks who can help out our co-creator and currently solo coder, Mike
• General advisors - honestly, any suggestions are welcome :)
