Crimson Darkness
A one-shot by Kit (Pikataro)
Rated: PG for some language
Inroduction: A long time ago, there lived a wise sage by the name of Oracle. One day, Oracle predicted the downfall of the humans and the rise of a new brand of species. These creatures would overpower the humans and force them to be slaves. However, Oracle prophesized that one human, among all others, would be able to turn into one of these creatures at will. Yet, this person had no choice when the clock strikes midnight every day. The person would change into the creature and would stay that way until 6 in the morning. This person also had no control over their actions, and would attack anyone, friend or foe, if they got in the way.
No one really paid attention to Oracle's prediction, even though they continued to pass the prophecy down. Finally, 5 years before the present day, about 50 meteorites crashed down onto earth. Monsters emerged from these meteorites. The humans had heard of them before. They were called... Pokemon. The leader, a psychic monster called Mewtwo began to communicate with the humans. He told them that they couldn't do anything to stop the invasion, and to either become slaves... or die. Fearing death, the humans took up the offer to become slaves. It is now the present day. The whereabouts of the human in the prophecy is unknown. The number of deaths per day has increased since the Pokemon took over. Only that one person can defeat Mewtwo and end this madness...
"Esper, time for school!" That voice... My mother's... It still rings in my head to this very day... It was about a year back that... Overlord Mewtwo obliterated her with the snap of his fingers... Only because she... It was too painful to think about. My mother was a kind person, and ever since those...monsters took over, she had been coming home everyday late at night, and too weak to even eat. But, she never gave up... Why she named me "Esper", I don't exactly know...
"Oi, Esper!" My father's voice this time. "You're gonna be late for school! You're lucky Overlord Mewtwo still allows people your age to get an education!!!" So I was late. I ran down the stairs as fast as I could, and bolted out the door. I looked around at the scenery. I saw those awful, wicked Pokemon torturing those poor souls. If only something could be done to stop this darkness that has spread over the world... I thought to myself. I hated seeing us humans threatened everyday by these monsters. Even the smallest of the monsters bossed them around. They were dangerous, and even our most powerful weapons couldn't stop them. After all, Overlord Mewtwo's psychic powers were powerful enough to stop an entire arsenal in mid-air. He could use his powers to stop a bomb from blowing up. He could do...anything. If only there were some way to stop him...
School was horrid. As usual. After all, when all your teachers are Pokemon that communicate through telepathy, no secrets could escape them. And worst of all, we had to learn all kinds of knowledge only Pokemon needed to know. Pokehistory, Pokerithmetic, Pokeology... You name it. And all these methods were...pointless and impossible. I mean, how do we know how Pokemon learn new abilities? We're only human, after all. We couldn't even make friends. Before the invasion, I was considered popular among my fellow students. But... That was back in 5th grade... If the invasion started when I was beginning elementary school, it wouldn't matter much if we couldn't have friends. But... In junior high and high school, it did matter. After all, we needed social skills to get on with life, one of the things the Pokemon refused to teach us. It's just too impossible that the impossible has happened...
"How was school?" my dad asked when I came home. Because he was a man (did I forget to mention Mewtwo was sexist?), he got off work early. I don't understand why; I'd think a sexist like Mewtwo would make the men work longer days since they were "stronger" than women...
"The usual. Torture, torture, torture," I sighed. My dad took one glance at me and headed into the kitchen to begin supper. I went up to my room to do my impossible homework. After working on the "Poke's theory of evolution", I started to smell spaghetti. I had always liked pasta, and I was glad the Pokemon let us keep our human food rather than eat their food. When dinnertime came, I walked down the stairs and into the dining room. I noticed that there was ice cream for us when we finished. Dinner was always an enjoyable time.
Well, another night's passed... I thought to myself. It's almost midnight. This homework is so annoying... I went to the bathroom to brush my teeth. I heard the grandfather clock my dad had bought years ago begin to chime to indicate midnight had come. That's when it started...
I felt a sudden burst of heat pass through my body. I tried to move my arms to reach for the switch that turned on the fan, but it felt as if my whole body was numb. I began to grow dizzy. I spun around and fell to the ground with a small "thump". I lost consciousness after that...
Where am I? Why does it feel like I'm speaking my own thoughts? Wait a second... Was the sink always that high up... Better take a closer look... Wait!!! Why is my body moving towards my room! I only wanted to look in the mirror!!! My legs... They're pitch black! And instead of feet, I have paws!!! What the hell am I??? Hey, my mirror in my room! Please, body of mine, I just wanna see what I look like! There we go... What the hell??? I'm...an UMBREON??? Why am I like this? Can't I change back??? Oh no, where am I going? Oh, my bed... Well, I guess my body's tired from the transformation... Goodnight...
I woke up cold and very frightened. It was about 6:15 in the morning.
"Oh my god! I'm back to normal! And thank god it's a Saturday!!!" Happy that I had changed back, plus the fact I didn't have any school today, I merrily hopped out of bed and rushed down for breakfast.
"My, you're up early. On a weekend, too," my dad commented.
"Yeah, well don't expect it all the time," I shot at him.
Breakfast was silent. All I could think about was the transformation. Maybe I can change into an Umbreon again at my own will. But will I be control of my body and actions this time? I pondered the thought of changing whenever I wanted, and decided to test it up in my room. I put my plate in the sink, gave my father a quick hug, and rushed up to my room immediately after.
OK, body, let's do this... I concentrated hard as the blood rushed through my body. I soon felt a tingle in my hands, and soon the rest of my body tingled, as if affected by some sort of chain reaction. I fell to the ground again, this time not losing consciousness. I looked over at my hands. They were slowly changing. I realized I was shrinking too. I closed my eyes to avoid watching this morbid transformation. When I felt the tingling stop, I opened my eyes. I looked at my legs. They were black again. I had become an Umbreon. And this time, it didn't feel like I had no control over my every action. Smiling, I opened up my window with my nose and jumped out of it. I didn't worry about my father. After all, he was used to me leaving without telling him.
I arrived at the mall within minutes. Wow, I can run really fast as an Umbreon... I thought merrily to myself as I headed inside. Humans were slaving over everything. Of course. I went up to an Alakazam, which seemed to be in charge.
"Excuse me," I asked it. I found I was speaking the Pokeversal language. "But why do we make these humans do all this work? It only leads to their death." The Alakazam glared at me for a second, then looked away.
"We do it because we can," he answered.
"But... The number of deaths a day has increased. If this doesn't stop, eventually all human life will be dead, and there will be no other slaves!!!"
"You DARE defy what we do? And you, of all Pokemon, should know better!!!" I was starting to get really pissed off.
"Go to hell, you wicked creature!" That did it. The Alakazam's eyes filled with fury. The slaves around me stopped and stared at the two of us. Even though they couldn't understand us, they could tell by our tones what we were feeling. The other Pokemon stopped to look at us, too. The Alakazam advanced towards me.
"You... You are DEAD!!!" He lunged at me with his full might. I successfully jumped out of the way before his attack could make contact. I decided to return the favor and bounded at him, my jaws open wide. I bit down hard on him, knowing that Dark attacks, such as Crunch, were powerful against Psychic types. Maybe Pokepowers class was useful after all, I thought as I released my grip on the Alakazam. He bounced back and hit the eastern wall. He seemed weak enough, so I decided to finish the battle. I focused carefully on my inner strength, and released a powerful Faint Attack on the Alakazam. When my attack made contact, the Alakazam let out a cry of pain, and began to disintegrate slowly. So that's what happen to Pokemon when they die... Is it only here on our planet that they disappear like that? Everyone around me watched in horror.
"Well, gotta go! Thanks for watching!" I shouted as I ran out of the mall. Seeing how I didn't want to get into anymore trouble, I headed back home.
When I reached my house, I leaped through my window. Fortunately, my dad hadn't noticed I had left. Now, can I change back? Maybe if I concentrate hard again... I focused carefully on becoming human, and I became shrouded in a magnificent light. When the light faded, I was back to being plain old Esper again.
Why am I Esper? It's a name my mother gave to me at birth. She had always thought it to be a highly unusual name. It's kinda pretty, I guess... Mother... Tears began to run down my cheeks. I usually cried when I thought of her. Mewtwo... I can't take it anymore!!! He's going down!!! I thought angrily as I took out a sheet of paper. I began to write strategies for beating him. Because I was a Dark type when I became Umbreon, the psychic powers couldn't do anything to me. But Mewtwo would definitely have other tricks up his sleeves; I just knew it!
It wasn't 'til long that night fell upon us. The sky was a crimson red, probably tainted from the chaos that ran wild. As soon as night had come, it was midnight. I felt the same strange sensation I had felt before, and my body had taken over.
Where am I going? To that hotel? But only Pokemon inhabit that area... Wait! Am I gonna go slaughter them??? No, this can't be!!! Stop, body, stop!!! No, it's too late... There are all kinds of Psychic and Ghost Pokemon inside. Guess they're Mewtwo's lackeys. Uh-oh, I can feel myself unleashing my Faint Attack! I've just struck down a Xatu! It's disintegrating! Oh no, they're calling for more help. I can see more foes coming. They're also Psychic types, but they've got humans with them! And they're using the humans as shields! And yet... My body is ready to unleash another Faint Attack, this time at the Pokemon with the human shields. But I can't kill humans! That'd be wrong! No, my body's heading straight towards them! The humans, they were knocked back! And the Pokemon using them, they've disintergrated! The humans, the gore that was released from their bodies will forever stay like that. They can't be disintegrated. Huh? Now my body's heading out of the hotel. The others looked too stunned to follow me. I'm heading home. Guess my body's calling it a night...
I found myself lying on a cold, hard floor. It took me seconds to realize I was in a cell of some sort. I looked around me. Other humans were there too...
"So, young miss, what have you done wrong?" an elderly man asked.
"I-I don't know. Where are we?" I was very frightened. I was hoping this was all a dream, but...
"You're at the Pokeprison," the man said. "It's where those who did wrong are to be killed by Overlord Mewtwo!"
"But... I didn't do anything wrong! Unless... Never mind, it's nothing..." My body turned numb. Someone must have tracked me down! I thought frantically. But what about my dad? Is he OK? I paced around, my heart beating faster than it ever had before. Finally, some Pokemon - Espeon to be exact - came up to my cell, and with their psychic powers, opened the door.
"Follow us..." the Espeon said in unison. I realized they could speak our language without using telepathy. I walked slowly behind them. My end was near, I could anticipate it. And so my life ends like this, unless I can take out Mewtwo as Umbreon... Mother... Forgive me...
We arrived at a strange looking terrain. It seemed fit for a Pokemon.
"So, you have come..." That voice... It was Mewtwo!
"Please, end all this now! Many humans are dying a day because you make them work too much, or you kill them for not following your orders!" I fell to my knees, tears gushing down my face.
"Any last words?" Mewtwo glared at me, as if hoping I would let him end my life quickly. I began to concentrate again, and I felt the tingling sensation. I closed my eyes and let my body work its magic.
"W-what the hell??? No!!!" The Mewtwo exclaimed, moving back in fear.
"I'm gonna take you down!!!" I roared, leaping at him. My whole body became shrouded in a pitch-black aura of some sort. I was using a powerful move, although I didn't know what. This is his end, I thought. We can finally be free!!! I then felt a chill go through my entire body. The black aura around my body suddenly faded, and I realized Mewtwo had put a sword through my heart. I fell to the ground, wincing in pain.
It...can't end like this. I'm sorry, everyone, I've failed... But... A sword? No fair... I felt my body begin to disintegrate. I was dead, just like the others I had killed...
"That human...was able to become a Pokemon..." Mewtwo muttered. "If this human was able to do such a thing, perhaps more humans will be able to change into Pokemon too, and soon defeat us... If that is so, then we shall leave..."
Epilogue: The invasion ended shortly after Esper's death. Mewtwo told everyone (human and Pokemon) that there was no point of staying and left without anything else to say. Since then, there has been peace in the world, for everyone is afraid to start a war in fear something from outer space might try to engage into battle with the earth again.
The story of Esper the Umbreon became the new story that was passed through generations. It was believed by many, because some humans secretly took pictures of what went on during the invasion. Many parents tell their children what a brave soul Esper had, and how her death was tragic to many. Her father was depressed for many days before accepting her death, and everyone who knew her at school mourned over her death. Esper is now famous throughout the entire world, and is known as Oracle's prophecy come true. At least now, Esper can be in heaven, just like her mother...

Please give me constructive criticism! This is another attempt at curing my writer's block; this fanfic may be a bit uncreative, but still... And sorry for some of the big blocks of text; I couldn't really split them in half or anything!!!
