3rd Gen Fire Red team

Ok, so i'm about to restart firered. I have my team all figured out except for one spot.

Venusaur
Rhydon
Moltres
Lapras
Dragonite
???

I need a pokemon for the last spot.

Also, if i do use this team when i start, i don't get any pokemon until i'm a ways into the game.
Anyways around this?

add a gengar, that's a good ghost/poison mix.

but yeah, a lot of those pokemon aren't going to be accessible until much later on in the game.

I'd pick a pokemon you get pretty early, like a nidoking or something.
Otherwise you'll go through most of the game with only a venusaur.
And unless you want to trade, there isn't a way round that, sorry.

You can add an Alakazam or Primape as both are available pretty early. Both have good agility and can be useful.:)

I would pick an electric, Pikachu would be the earliest one you could get.

I'm just used to usually having a fire, grass, water and electric
pokemon with me always. I don't see the problem with pikachu.
Its not a bad pokemon once you evolve it into Raichu. Plus Kadabra's
defense sucks, you can easily take it out in one hit if it were to miss
or not KO the opponent.
