Kabir wasn't sleeping, once again. It wasn't a surprise to him. He was too busy being pissed off. Of course, the day he decides to start his journey he finds out his "brother" is starting one of his own as well, only going to a different region because Kanto isn't safe enough. And to top it off, he got to get a Charmander! Charmander was one of Kabir's favorite Pokemon. Kabir scowled up at the ceiling, glaring holes into the dark colors of it. He wished that he could meet up with Kabir again someday and battle him. Stupid good for nothing *******, Kabir thought in bitter annoyance.
A quick glance at his clock told him that it was early the morning, instead of late in the night like he had first thought. Kabir sighed and pushed up from the warmth of his bed. There was no point in sleeping now. He wanted to be one of the first to the lab, after all. With a harsh yawn, Kabir got out of bed and sluggishly walked to the bathroom he shared with Sabir. He locked the door to both bedrooms, and then got in the shower. Kabir vaguely hoped it would help wake him up, because otherwise he didn't think he would have much luck of doing anything productive today.
In all truth, it took him about an hour before he was dressed and ready to go. He could hear Sabir messing around on the computer in his room, and a smirk appeared on Kabir's face. He rather enjoyed it when he caused annoyance to his brother. Without bothering to tell Sabir he was finished, Kabir unlocked both doors and then walked into his own room. He picked up the bag that he had packed the night before, and then double checked everything. Kabir picked up his cell phone from the nightstand beside his bed, and then slipped it into the pocket of his jeans. Then he tugged on his necklace, picked up his bag, and looked about the room once more.
"Leaving so early?"
Kabir rolled his eyes and then turned around. Sabir was leaning in the doorway, arms crossed. There was a small smirk on his face. "Yeah, actually I am. So why don't you go back to your shower and jack off like you do every morning." Ah, good old sibling banter.
Sabir's smirk turned into a sneer. "Oh very funny," he snapped. "Too bad for me and my apparent jacking off that you used all of the hot water. Way to go."
"No problem. Why don't you go talk to your little girlfriend?"
"Are you enjoying yourself? And she's probably asleep. She sleeps until noon anyway."
"Hm."
They stared at each other for a moment. Sabir finally pushed away from the wall and walked back into his own room, shutting the door to their bathroom as he did so. Kabir sighed and stared up at the ceiling for a moment. Then he shook his head, and walked out of his room.
Kabir knew that his parents would both still be in bed, and he saw no need to bother them with his leaving. He scribbled down a note saying goodbye in his smallish handwriting, and then grabbed a bag of food he had packed for himself out of the refrigerator. Just as he was about to head out the front door, he saw something on the couch. Kabir sighed, wondering what the hell it was this time, and then walked over to it. It was a blanket, and said blanket was moving. He blinked slowly, and then pulled it back.
The large black Pokemon looked back up at him blearily. Kabir chuckled softly. "Mightyena, what are you doing? Shouldn't you be upstairs with my sister?"
The dog snorted and simply shoved its head underneath a pillow located next to it. Kabir rolled his eyes and dropped the blanket, and then headed to the door once more. This time there was nothing to stop him. He opened the door and then walked out, shutting it behind him as softly as he could. He walked away from his house and in the direction of the Pokemon lab, entertaining himself with ideas of the Pokemon he might get. He knew it would be better than Sabir's. That would be an almost definite must.
It didn't take him very long to get there. This was mostly because he wasn't really paying attention and was more musing, but oh well. Kabir glanced at the door to the lab, and then knocked. A lab aid (or so he assumed) opened the door and allowed him to come in, though Kabir found something a bit off about the aid. The aid told him to make himself comfortable, and Kabir did so. He plopped down in a chair and shut his eyes, deciding that rest would be a good idea before anything else.
He didn't know how much longer it was later, but finally he was woken up by the arrival of more people. Kabir grumbled and blinked slowly. Oak still wasn't there. Kabir sighed and began to think about all of the challenges he was going to face. He knew that he'd do his best in them all, and couldn't wait to get started. Soon enough, Oak showed himself to them. He was holding a tray of Pokeballs, and Kabir felt his stomach give a little lurch at the sight of them. Oak went around handing people their Pokemon. Kabir couldn't wait to find out what it was, but he knew that he would have to wait until a bit later. The Professor handed him a few items along with the Pokeball, and Kabir was able to figure out what they were; a Pokedex and five extra Pokeballs.
"Today is a very important day for you young trainers, although I wish this day would have come under different circumstances. You're here today to begin your quest to save Kanto from the control of the Dark Brotherhood, but you must listen to this warning, once the leader of the group knows of your existence, he will try to persuade you to join his cause. If you dny him then he will have you and your Pokemon executed. At your current state, you would stand no match against him, he is ruthless and his Pokemon are all corrupt and full of evil, he will most likely come after you immediately while you are weak so you do not get too strong." Oak took a deep breath after all of that talking. He then pointed to the map of Kanto he was currently next to.
"This is what Kanto currently looks like covered in Darkness, currently you are here, in an underground lab under Pallet Town where my old lab used to stand. Your first mission is to make it to Viridian City and go to the old Viridian Gym, there you will find a hidden door that will lead to the Clan of Hope's hideout, show the man at the door your Pokedex and he will let you in, after this wait for a man named Zypher to come to you. That is all so take care young trainers, and let light lead you all." He took a nice gulp of coffee after that. Kabir could tell he was nervous, and he didn't like that one bit. Why should he be so nervous?
Of course, just as he thought that, the ground began to shake. Oak's coffee spilled over his coat, and suddenly the man stood up with quite a bit of force. There was an intent look on his face as he said, "Run."
Kabir didn't like the prospect of running. After all, he was a rather competitive type who had a lot of faith in his abilities. Nonetheless, he followed the other trainers towards the exit. Apparently it was too late, because moments later six cloaked people appeared out of the shadows. They each called out a Pokemon, and it seemed like they wanted a fight. Kabir smirked. He was willing to bet that this was already much more eventful than Sabir's safe journey across Johto. The stupid idiot would probably wind up with Team Rocket anyway. Kabir shook his head, and then brought out his Pokemon.
The first thing he thought when he saw the Pokemon was something akin to disbelief. It was a type that he had often seen Sabir gush over; an Abra. Kabir rolled his eyes. Of course he got stuck with the one that Sabir liked. Just his luck. The little Pokemon looked up at his trainer with basically closed eyes. Then it yawned and Kabir vaguely wondered if it had gone to sleep. The cloaked trainer chortled rather evilly. Kabir glared at him and his perfectly fine Gastly, then looked at his Pokemon and urged it awake. The Abra looked at Gastly with a rather bored expression on its face.
Kabir grabbed his Pokedex to check some stuff, but before he could manage the cloaked dude ordered a lick attack. Now, Kabir wasn't a huge expert on Pokemon, but he wasn't stupid either. He knew that would do some major damage to Abra, especially because his Pokemon was so much weaker than the Gastly already. He cursed, and then called for a teleport. Abra seemed to understand that, because the Pokemon quickly disappeared and reappeared behind Gastly before the attack could work. Kabir smirked at t he guy in the cloak, but was a bit annoyed to find that the guy didn't seem to be worried at all.
"Use hypnosis." Such a simple command, yet it made Kabir freeze in place.
"Teleport."
Abra disappeared, and Gastly's attack bounced to a wall. Kabir was relieved, and became a bit happy at what happened next. The attack bounced off the wall and hit Gastly instead, though how Sabir wasn't sure. Gastly drifted down to the ground, fitfully asleep. Sabir looked at Abra, unsure of what to do. It wasn't really like he could do much of anything. Kabir looked around the room, and finally decided that he knew what to do. He grabbed a water bottle from his backpack and tossed it to Abra, who caught it and looked at it curiously.
"Do something psychic to it!" Kabir urged, hoping that Abra could at least do something other than teleport.
The little Pokemon looked at him with confusion, but then uncapped the bottle and stared at the water. Kabir bit his lip, hoping that whatever the hell he was trying to get Abra to do worked. The water began to swirl in the bottle, until it suddenly shot out like a stream and slammed into Gastly, knocking it back into a wall. Because of the sleeping state, Gastly was in a more solid form and didn't go through the wall, but hit it and fell down to the ground. Abra dropped the bottle and then yawned, falling asleep on the spot. Kabir blanched. This was so not a good time for his Pokemon to take a nap.
"Tch...beginner's luck," the hooded man grumbled. "Gastly, awake and destroy Abra with lick!"
Unluckily for Kabir, Gastly woke up. The ball of gas blinked slowly, looking a bit injured and unsure of what to do, and then started towards Abra. Kabir cursed under his breath, knowing that Abra wouldn't be able to do something that "powerful" again. Abra blinked blearily, waking up once more. Before Kabir could say a word, Abra teleported away and onto the cloaked man's head. The man shouted and Gastly whipped around, then took off for its trainer and Abra. Kabir watched silently as Abra suddenly teleported away again. Gastly ran smack dab into its trainer, who cursed it out and glared at it.
"You stupid fool of a Pokemon," he growled. He recalled Gastly, though Kabir wasn't sure why. Instead, the man looked at Kabir with a rather crazy countenance. He laughed evilly, and brought out a much larger purple thing. It was a Gengar. Kabir resisted the urge to scream a profanity.
Maybe I should've went with Sabir, he thought dryly, as he told Abra to get ready for battle. Abra looked at him dryly, but nodded anyway. Just as the hooded guy was apparently about to attack, there was a clapping sound from behind them all. Kabir whipped around, and saw a new man in a black cloak. This one was sitting at Oak's desk. Kabir looked around for Oak, and finally found him held to the ground by shadows. Kabir's eyes narrowed as he wondered who the man was, but the others beat him to voicing his questions. Kabir felt odd looking at this man. The hairs on the back of his neck tingled.
"That's enough, all of you can leave us alone now," the man said. He waved his hand, and then the cloaked trainers vanished into the shadows. Kabir stole a quick glance over his shoulder, and then looked back at the man. Abra scooted closer to Kabir.
"Now where were we...oh yes, I'd like to introduce myself," he said. The man took off his hood, revealing odd features. His eyes were pure white and his hair was long and spiky and black. Then he pulled out a small dagger from behind his cloak and knelt down beside Oak. There was dry blood already on the dagger. Kabir felt his muscles twitch as he told himself to move, but he couldn't.
"My name is Beo, it's very nice to meet you all, now Oak, are there any last words you'd like to say to Kanto's last breath of life?" Beo asked. The shadows disappeared from Oak's mouth.
"YOU SCUM!" Oak cried. "ZYPHER WILL DESTROY YOU AND THESE NEW TRAINERS WILL HELP!" Oak screamed as the shadows covered his mouth again. Beo took the dagger and swung it back in the air. Kabir glared at the man.
"YOU FOOL! I HAVE ALREADY WON, AND I WILL USE THIS SAME DAGGER TO KILL ZYPHER!" Beo shouted, ending that proclamation with a rather hysterical laugh. He shoved the dagger into Oak's chest, obviously killing him right away. Kabir looked on with cold eyes as Beo licked the blood on the dagger. Abra clung to Kabir's pant leg. "Now listen, don't be frightened I just wanted to come and introduce myself to you all, it's not yet your time to die. No, I want you to suffer first and be willing to give into the darkness, that's when we'll meet again." Those words were the last he said, for then he snapped his fingers and was suddenly gone.
Kabir stared. Maybe he should've gone to Johto, and maybe this wasn't all it was cracked up to be. Because, to him, from where he was standing it looked like he was being used as a pawn. He hated that.
