Also, blog for the best entry written by a non-supporter.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OK, I've just gotten my permission from Jake to plan and run this event. The "how to plan an event" thread was a little more intimidating than I expected, but I'm sure it's daunting for all first-timers lol. Anyway, here are the details as I presented them to Jake:

    Shining Raichu said:
This will be sort of like the Writing Competition except rather than writing a story, they're writing non-fiction. Unlike the Writing contest, there would be no template or 'prompt' and they would be given free creative reign over what they wish to write about, however guidelines will stipulate that the submissions must be a showcase of either the contestants' wit or emotive writing ability (or both). They can choose to write about any topic that pertains to their own lives or life in general, such is the essence of a blog.

Contestants will be asked to submit a link to the specific blog post that they wish to enter in the competition. I, as host, as well as two other impartial judges would read all the entries and determine the winner.

OK, so I've been having thoughts as to the judges:

Since my event is a late addition, I might not get many people who see it and would volunteer to help me judge, so I'll probably end up having to defer to Jake to find them for me. Though I'm fairly sure I could wrangle a few people myself, if that's allowed.

    Now, as to the prizes:

I was thinking of the usual 1st place, 2nd place and participant emblems. Would I have to create them? I don't have a problem with that, I'm just not sure since usually people who are not staff don't usually get to create new emblems.

Also, I was thinking. So as to not make this event exclusive to people with supportership, I thought maybe the regular members who wish to participate could do so by linking to a blog on an external blog site and if the winner happens to be one of those people, then they would also receive a PC blog as part of their prize. If there are any thoughts on that, please let me know.

    That's all I've got for now :)

Right, first of all, it may be better if you got people to submit their entries to you via. PM instead of on their blogs. That will clear up any issues of non-supporters, plus you'll have no accusations of copying. If you like, and with the entrants permission, you can post the winning entries at the end of the competition.

Secondly, don't fall into the same trap I fell into with the Christmas Carol judging ^^' . Come up with some set categories, each with a mark out of ten. This is so you can have a finite number on which to rank them, cos believe me you'll need it. The categories can be anything ("Awesomness" can also be one for that general X factor you get from a reeeeaaalllyy good blog).

Thirdly, if you're going to have other judges, be sure to forward the entries to them ASAP so they can have enough time as you have had to judge them. It's best to set a deadline for judging, but make sure before you begin that all your judges can definitely make it, and ask them to tell you straight away during the competition if something comes up and they can't make it. Generally. the threads stay open up to about a week after the Get-Together finishes so there's no massive rush, however we usually set a deadline for like the last day just to be safe.

Finally, YES you can make your own emblems, so long as they're 80x80px and can be just about anything. In the next few days a thread should be posted here where you can submit them for upload (you must upload them to an image host site like Imageshack or Photobucket), with a name and description.

Hope this helps. Good luck with it all. ^^

Hey Kip, thanks so much for getting back to me! XD

Forever already gave me a great idea on how to include the non-supporters. I've made a livejournal account and I'm going to give the non-supporter contestants the username and password so that they can post all their entries to there. I'd rather have it out in the open rather than as a PM so that the contestants can look among each others' entries if they wish - if it were all done by PM that would make everything so blind and for all they know we could just be picking someone we like rather than rather than the best entry.

LOVING your idea about the categories, I'll have to work that out. I was actually concerned about the criteria being a little too wishy-washy so that fixes it right up. Thank you so much :D

And excellent re: the emblems. That's fantastic. Thank you for all your help - this has been more work than I thought it was going to be, but in a good way!

    The PokéCommunity Blog Contest
    Hosted by Shining Raichu
    Judged by Forever, Toujours

    [a id]intro[/a id]What is the Blog Competition?

This competition is basically a chance for all those writers out there to try their hand at something a little different from fiction. It is an open-ended competition which allows you to write about anything at all – whether it be an interesting anecdote, a frustrated rant, a lament to a lost love or even your thoughts about a movie or book; the entire world is open to you. All you have to remember is that this is still, above all, a creative writing contest – and of course, to have fun!

    [a id]instructions[/a id]Instructions

Entries may be submitted at any point from the time this thread appears (which will be as close as possible to 12:00AM EST on July 15) until 11:59PM EST on July 18. Only one entry may be submitted per person. I'm not going to set a word minimum or maximum because that can be creatively stifling, but if you could keep the entries shorter than Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, that would be much appreciated :)

It's simple: Write your rant entry and post it in this thread. While I realise it would make sense to host a blogging contest in the blogs themselves, a lot of members do not have a PokeCommunity blog and this is the simplest and most organised way to include everyone.

    [a id]instructions[/a id]Judging

We will be looking for original thought, humour, wit, emotion or just a general 'X-factor' in your content and writing style. We will each rate your entry out of ten and the person with the highest score out of thirty will be the winner!

    [a id]prize[/a id]Prizes

First and second prize emblems will be awarded, and everybody gets one for giving it a shot!

I'll have to agree with Kip on this one with the whole PMing thing, so no copying can ensure. Also correct me if I'm wrong, but Livejournal entries can be deleted and so forth. I'm not saying it will happen, but it's a possibility in that happening, if there's ever a personal grudge or whatever against another contestant. The easiest thing would be for everyone to PM you, Forever and Toujours with the blog entry. That way there's no way people can steal any ideas or content.

Or so everyone could see it you could later c/p it to the LiveJournal account.

Actually come to think of it that's probably a better idea. I think I'm being too trusting of the PC memberbase lol. They can PM me the entry and I'll paste it to the LiveJournal account for judging and so that others can see. Thanks to all three of you!

    All fixed.

    Yes please! *Edits post*

There, done. When you made that other suggestion to bring the competition out of the blogs entirely, I sort of read that as a rejection of the blog prize, so I took it out. But yeah, yes please :)

Also, if there are any problems with the CSS being too long (which I'm told there are on some styles even though it's fine on mine), don't worry about it, it will all be fixed incredibly soon :)
