Guidelines & Resources
Please contact wolf if you have any questions or feedback.

  • Thread categories
[Discussion]: discussions, polls, etc.; [RMT]: Rate My Team threads; [Event]: events, tournaments, competitions, etc.; [Group]: groups, traditional leagues (akin to those in the official games), clans, clubs, etc.; [Resource]: resources, guides, etc.; [Battle Log]: battle logs, videos, replays, codes, warstories, journals, etc. Don't use a category if you are unsure which one would be most relevant for your thread.

  • Standard battle rules
All events and groups follow these rules, unless explicitly given an exception.

    • The PokéCommunity's standard format is Smogon's Gen 6 OU (rules).
    • Illegitimate Pokémon are banned. To clarify, they are Pokémon that cannot be obtained in-game normally without the use of glitches or hacks. Hacked Pokémon are allowed, provided that they have legitimate features.
    • Do not assist, or ghost, players in a battle. This includes telling them what move to make or giving them some form of gameplan to follow.
    • If a disconnection occurred, recreate the situation when it happened. If this is not feasible due to unreasonable battle length, highly improbable circumstances, or some other reason, the player who didn't disconnect may choose to rematch with either the same teams or new teams. If there is any suspicion that a disconnection was carried out deliberately to take advantage of this rule in any way, the offending user may be reported.

  • Submitting Rate My Team threads

    • The Battling & Team Building forum only allows team help regarding PvP (Player versus Player) or competitive play. PvE (Player versus Environment) or in-game team help belongs in the Main Series Pokémon Gaming forums.
    • Simple questions related to team help should be posted in the Moveset Help & Other Questions thread (e.g. help with a single Pokémon's set).
    • Be willing to take constructive criticism and consider all suggestions. Your thread is for team help and not solely for bragging.
    • The following information is required for RMT threads:

      • At least 5 Pokémon per team.
      • Each Pokémon must have a complete moveset, preferably using the following format:

        Pokémon @ Item
        - Move 1
        - Move 2
        - Move 3
        - Move 4

      • If you are unable to comply with these requirements, you should instead post in the Team-Building Workshop thread. Conversely, if you have posted your thread and it does not meet the requirements, it will be moved to the Team-Building Workshop.

    • State what generation and format the team is for. If not, the standard format will be assumed.
    • Try to explain why you chose each Pokémon, as well as the overall strategy and goal of the team. These reasons can be subjective or objective, as long as it sends the message across.

  • Posting in Rate My Team threads

    • Fix problems with the team, and don't simply point them out.
    • Explain your suggestions. Why should the original poster consider them? What are the pros and cons to using them?
    • Try to stay within the original poster's criteria. e.g. If the original poster would prefer to keep certain Pokémon, abide by their request and only consider improving upon said Pokémon.

  • Submitting events and groups

    • All events and groups require approval from a staff member in the Events & Groups Approval sub-forum before they may be submitted in the Battling & Team Building forum.
    • Finish your thread before you submit it. Unfinished threads may be posted without approval if you intend to develop majority of it with the rest of the community.
    • State what game or battle simulator your thread is for, as well as the format and any other battle rules. If not, the standard format will be assumed.
    • Don't neglect your thread until it has transferred owners, has ended, or has been closed.
    • Avoid making an event similar to a preexisting one. Try to be unique and make your event standout.
    • Refrain from using custom banlists unless they enhance your thread. Don't let your bias for a certain Pokémon or mechanic affect your decision to use a custom banlist.
    • Use a clear and readable format.
    • Try to offer incentives for the winners of your event, like a Pokémon or a custom emblem. Ask a staff member if you want an emblem uploaded.

  • Participating in events and groups

    • Sign up using only a single forum account.
    • The four-word rule and character limit may be bypassed only for sign up and battle result posts.
    • Don't neglect your position in an event or group after joining. Let the thread owner(s) know if and when you will become unavailable.
    • Plan out a time and day for when you and your opponent can battle. Use visitor/profile messages to do so. The thread owner(s) can then keep track of progress.
    • Don't join more than one group if they are fundamentally similar.
    • Try to save the replays, logs, or in-game codes for your battles when possible. Otherwise, you have no evidence that the battle ever happened.

  • Posting in resource threads

    • Resource threads can be posted in no matter how old they are.

  • Submitting warstories
A warstory is a battle log with commentary throughout the battle to explain the player's decisions and to entertain the reader.

    • Use a clear and readable format. Remove unnecessary parts of the log (e.g. Leftovers recovery).
    • Choose an entertaining battle. Battles that end in landslide sweeps tend to be dull and uninteresting.
    • An example of a good warstory would be Opposite Day's "Speed is fun - 'till it kills!".
