General Character Discussion

As the title would suggest, this is a catch-all thread to discuss the many characters who've come and gone throughout the Pocket Monsters anime franchise. I've noticed that we tend to have a lot of discussion on characters like Kasumi, Serena, and Satoshi here, and since we have general threads for the anime and the movies as a whole, I figure one for the characters would work well. Simply put, you can discuss anything about characters you like and characters that you don't; your favorite episodes about them, their best and worst moments, their development or lack thereof, as well as the way they bounced off other characters.

And this isn't just limited to main characters, it can cover rivals, Gym Leaders, COTDs, etc. This isn't limited to the humans either, Pokémon characters are up for the discussion as well.

I'll start this topic off by starting a discussion about the anime franchise's central character: Satoshi.



The fact that we have a thread on him six pages long about what we'd like to see done better with him would suggest that, like him or not, few of us would consider him perfect. And how could he when he's been in every episode of each of the five shows? But for the purpose of the starting topic here, I hope to take things in a different direction than the "What kind of Ash do you want?" thread and focus on the positives of Satoshi this time. So the opening question, one that I hope others are able to respond to, would be "What are your favorite Satoshi moments?".

Again, it's simple enough: simply take at whatever moments or episodes where you felt that Satoshi especially shined as a character. These can range from funny moments, dramatic moments, moments where he interacts with another character, or moments where he might have developed. They can come from any of the five Pocket Monsters shows. Personally, I'll take one moment from each series and just say a little bit about them:

Satoshi almost releases Pikachu, Pocket Monsters: In my opinion, this is one of the better Satoshi and Pikachu bonding episodes. And even though he doesn't actually release Pikachu in the end, I actually reacted to this more than the other "Satoshi releases a Pokémon" episodes.
Satoshi's first Gym battle with Touki, Advanced Generation: Satoshi has always loved to win, but he usually puts his Pokémon's well-being first. Not this time. Seeing him push Kimori past its limit well after it's clear he should stop, because he can't accept losing, was always pretty surprising for someone like him.
Satoshi bids farewell to Shinji, Diamond & Pearl: The anime's best rivalry ended on an excellent note with the two, who've finally grown to respect one another, wishing each other luck in their future goals and hoping for another battle one day. Shinji was the best thing to happen to Satoshi in a very long time, and I honestly could have picked any moment from their rivalry to put here. But this was just a great conclusion to everything.
Satoshi reminisces about Lizardon, Best Wishes: Not only was this a great episode for new and old fans alike, but for perhaps one of the only times in BW Satoshi actually came across as a trainer who had been traveling for a while. Plus, it reintroduced Lizardon after a six-year absence from the anime franchise. I hope XY does an episode similar to this one.
Satoshi tries to dance like Tierno, XY: This, coupled with everyone's reactions to his atrocious dancing (especially Eureka's), gets my vote for being Satoshi's funniest, as well as his most cringe-inducing, XY moment so far.

One way that I hope to do this in the future, should the thread stay alive, is to introduce new topics for discussion about a character every week. Next week, I'd like to start a discussion about Pikachu and maybe go in order from there. But overall, this is just meant to be a thread to talk about anime characters you like and the ones that you don't.

PS : I believe Ash should be more like Ben Tenison (Ben 10 Omniverse) after considering the Original Ash ketchum from Kento.
Currently , Ash's personality is like a Standard Harem Protagonist from Visual Novel.

I've seen the same picture circulating on serebii as well. Maybe it's just my eyes are terrible or something, but people are seeing exactly what you're seeing and I'm just not seeing it. I'm not looking too much into it until I see a clearer image. Goodra confirmed on the main cast now too?

Honestly , I wish Serena & Clemont to have this kind of relationship with Ash ---



The reason XY Group has such a boring chemistry because Writer/Director Cut off all the ''Ugly Part'' of Friendship and made their chemistry too Normal.
Even in Original series , Brock & Misty would support Ash but they also brutally point out his stupidity .

Yeah i miss that point in Pokemon series. :/
I hope this is changed in future episodes, the charackters are too passive.
And serena has cut her hair? O.o I can't see that pic.

Yeah I agree when Brock and misty were around they supported and gave confidence and advise to ash and at the same time pointing out if he is doing anything wrong and that's not the case in x and y so it has becomes boring, everything looks normal simple and nothing really interesting is happening

Yes i agree. Shinji is in fact my favourite character in pokemon. I hope they bring him back. he was a great character.
