I've always loved journaling Pokémon games, it's actually why I joined this site. So I've decided to journal my first playthrough of Pokémon Sword! I was excited to play it the second it came out and have already made some progress so the first day will be long and in several updates. These games have a lot to explore!
Day 1, Part 1
I start my journey sitting on my couch watching a match between a trainer and the reigning Champion of the Galar Region, Leon. Just then, I'm greeted by my enthusiastic and charismatic friend, Hop. He tells me he's waiting for his champion brother Leon to arrive home in Postwick. I grab my dad's old bag in my room and head over to Hop's place to meet Leon.
When we get to his house, Hop's mom tells us that he needs to pick his brother up from Wedgehurst cause he tends to get lost, so I tag along to route 1, avoiding Pokémon on the way. When we arrive at Wedgehurst, we are greeted by a large crowd of people at the train station. They cheer vicariously as the reigning champion Leon emerges from a train with his prized unbeatable Charizard. Hop calls for his brother in the sea of people bringing them to a soft murmur. After a little speech to his fans, Leon is led back home by his brother and me, his new friend Aaron.
Back at Hop's home in Postwick, Leon tells us he has a very important present for us. A very special Pokémon to start our journey! I looked over the three options and picked the adorable little grass monkey named Grookey. Hop picked next and choose a sad and anxious water chameleon named Sobble. Hop and I discuss taking on the Gym Challenge with our new Pokémon. We decided to think it over after a nice meal and a good night's sleep.
The next day Hop and I feel like we bonded well with our new buddies overnight. He suggested we have our first Pokémon battle to see how strong that bond was. Grookey and I managed to take down his already owned Wooloo easily and his Sobble after several turns. He admitted that while his loss was embarrassing, he still had a long way to go before he could become strong enough to defeat his brother and become Champion! After our battle, I headed back home to tell my mom about our journey. However, on the way, Hop and I discovered a Wooloo broke down the gate blocking the notoriously dangerous Slumbering Weald and escape. So we dropped everything and chased after the guy. Entering the Slumbwring Weald was no difficult task. But the further we strolled through, the foggier and creepier it got. We could barely see anything! While on the search for Wooloo, in the middle of the dreaded fog, a mysterious cry called out. Out of the fog, merged an unknown wolf-like Pokemon I've never seen before. Hop suggested attacking it with my freshly caught Grookey. When commanding Grookey to use Branch Poke on the creature, it vanished and reappeared before our eyes. It was an illusion! After several attempts to attack it, the mystical Pokémon vanquishes in the fog. The shock of everyone causes us to faint, only to awaken to Leon and the missing Wooloo. After scolding us for getting lost, Leon takes us home. Back at Postwick, I head to my place to tell my mom about my new gym challenge with Grookey! At home, my mother hands me enough cash to begin my journey, heals my Pokémon, and sends me on my way to Route 1!
Route 1 was blocked by Wooloo. The obnoxious buggers forced me to traverse into the tall grass. After avoiding wild Pokemon and battling a few trainers, I finally made it to Wedgehurst. Upon my arrival, I was greeted by Leon, who told me I should visit Professor Magnolia in her Research Lab. After exploring the town a bit, I headed over there. I overheard from some of the townspeople that Professor Magnolia lived at a cottage on Route 2. At the professor's research lab, I meet her assistant and granddaughter Sonia and her adorable electric corgi Pokemon Yamper! Sonia introduced herself and gave me a rundown of her studies. She made a remark about my Rotom Phone and installed the Pokedex on it. We chatted a little longer and soon I was out of there and made my way to Route 2 to meet Professor Magnolia.
When I finally made it to Route 2, I ran into Leon who seemed to be lost cause he knocked me over. He apologizes, he gave me 20 Poke Balls and was on his way. Moving on, I battled my first trainer ever! A youngster named Jake and his Skwovet. We did a few more battles until I reached Magnolia's house. Upon meeting her, she asked me and Hop about the Gym Challenge. Leon explained that in order to compete in the Gym Challenge, a trainer must be endorsed by another trainer. We made a deal with us that if he witnessed a battle between me and Hop, then he may consider endorsing both of us. So I went ahead and battled Hop. This battle was harder than our first match cause I was faced with three Pokémon vs my Grookey. However, we still managed to beat him on the first try! Nevertheless, Leon agreed to endorse us and so we made the journey to Monostoke to register for the Gym Challenge! But first Hop and I had to race back to Wedgehurst so we can board the train at the station. On my way back I decided to finally catch my very first Pokémon. My very own Yamper who I named Cheddar! Evading the grass once more, I caught up with Hop at the train station. The real journey was about to begin.
