We have a few weeks to speculate about the Isle of Armor DLC pack and then a few months after that to continue speculating about the Crown Tundra DLC pack. However, while it can be quite hard to speculate regarding the impact of new Pokemon for which we do not know the stats or movepools (or in many cases even typing), datamining has revealed learnset additions for returning Pokemon: here
What do you think? Here are the Pokemon I feel received the largest buffs based on the above information:
I'm sure I missed some - please feel free to comment on these or find your own in the the document. Or to speculate about the new Pokemon or forms as well!
How do you think this will impact returning Pokemon's tier placement?
How do you think it will impact the metagame that has already formed for SS?
Where do you think the new Pokemon will end up?
What do you think? Here are the Pokemon I feel received the largest buffs based on the above information:
Spoiler:
- Kabutops gets Leech Life, Cross Poison, and Psycho Cut, giving it more coverage options as a rain sweeper.
- Zapdos gets Hurricane. I think this is honestly absurd.
- Feraligatr gets Psychic Fangs. The fact it breaks screens can limit counterplay.
- Forretress gets Body Press. Now it poses a legitimate offensive threat with Gyro Ball + Body Press, but it is still kind of a bad spinner due to its inability to handle most spinblockers.
- Donphan gets Body Press and Power Whip. Similar to Foretress.
- Raikou gets Scald! This makes it much more threatening against Ground types and physical attackers. It can also now run Aura Sphere without a Rash nature.
- Lugia gets Hurricane. This could be more threatening in wearing down Kyogre.
- Sceptile gets Dragon Dance. I'm not sure if this is really that impactful, but it has a decent physical attacking movepool.
- Blaziken gets Close Combat, Aura Sphere and U-Turn. Obviously going straight back to Uber.
- Swampert gets Bulk Up, Darkest Lariat, Liquidation, Body Press. I believe datamines found mega stones, so could be a massive rain threat again.
- Breloom gets Close Combat.
- Aggron gets Body Press! Off that giant defense - definitely sure to make a big impact.
- Sharpedo gets Close Combat. I imagine it'll be an even better cleaner now, as CC is generally a better option than Earthquake to Rotom-W.
- Lopunny gets Play Rough, Close Combat, U-Turn. I imagine if megas are back then this one is in for a nice OU run this gen.
- Tangrowth gets Solar Blade for possible sun abuse, though I think its defensive sets will still be premiere.
- Yanmega gets Swords Dance - who knows what type of debauchery is in store from this one.
- Probopass and Magnezone get Body Press which is good for trapping steels since they lost Hidden Power.
- Uxie and Mesprit get Nasty Plot and both of them along with Azelf get Encore, Play Rough and Stored Power. I can see all of them playing fun tricks in their respective tiers.
- Virtually everything from Gen 5 on now gets Endure.
- Genesect gets Leech Life. Looks like another trip to Ubers for the bug boi.
- Tyrantrum gets Close Combat. Yikes.
- Lycanroc gets Play Rough, Rock Blast, Close Combat, Psychic Fangs, all expanding its coverage for possible sweeping sets or as an anti-metagame pick.
- Comfey gets Encore to potentially provide a better setup opportunity.
- All of the Tapu's got their movesets buffed ridiculously, except Fini. They all picked up Play Rough. Lele got Psycho Cut. Bulu and Koko got Close Combat. Bulu got High Horsepower. Just absurd as all of these were easily on the edge of being broken last gen already.
- UBs... omfg Pheromosa got CC; Buzzwole got CC, Darkest Lariat and High Horsepower; Celesteela got Self-Destruct, Body Slam and Megahorn (???); Guzzlord is still terrible; Naganadel got Toxic Spikes, Dragon Dance, Hex, Cross Poison; Blacephelon got Fire Punch, Shadow Claw, Rock Blast, Zen Headbutt. I fully expect half of these to go to ubers.
I'm sure I missed some - please feel free to comment on these or find your own in the the document. Or to speculate about the new Pokemon or forms as well!
