Unown Lands
One day you decide to go out of town for a trip, vacation, or otherwise relaxing stroll. Taking only your partner pokemon with you, the two of you discover a strange glow and decide to approach.
That light overcomes you and your pokemon taking you to a strange and mysterious place. Overhead the sky is a rainbow of colors with pokemon floating between and into clouds. They are the Unown!
Some take notice of you and come to float down and inspect the strange beings that have entered their domain. They're quick to flee once getting a glimpse. It seems you're of no consequence to the collective.
The way home is gone, and all that can be done is to explore these Unown Lands.

Overview
This role-play is rated T for teens. It's focus is on the thrill of adventure and uses Mechanics to guide success in risky situations. That being said, it's Play by Post here on the forum and will have an IC thread on stage once enough people have joined.
Cooperation is a must for this RP as the overall goal will be to befriend Unown and convinced them to return you home. The challenges you will face along the way are meant to expand on your characters in personality as well as new friendships. If you decide to create a flawed character there will be more to explore in terms of growth. Characters with less flaws will have less to develop of course. In either case, the Unown Lands will be equally challenging.
You will encounter "regional" pokemon and fakemon for this RP and be able to add them to your team for the purpose of overcoming the challenges ahead. There's no permanent captures here! You're gunna need to "Ash Ketchem" your teams if you know what I mean.

Mechanics
Every pokemon has three stats: Attack, Defense, and Skill (Name). Your trainers have one stat and that is Skill (Name). Don't forget to label the skill!
To begin, keep all stats at 1, except for a stat of choice that becomes 2 on your pokemon.

Successes
For each point in a stat you will roll a number of d6 (standard dice of six sides.)
When rolling you're looking for your dice to have at least a 4 or greater. You're not counting the total shown! So if you roll a 3, 4, and 6 then you're merely counting the dice which show 4 or greater. In this example that's only 2 dice!
Success is counting these dice. For the example of 3, 4, and 6 you have two dice giving you success.
0 Dice showing 4 or greater means success with a setback. You may break a tool, get lost, or have some other misfortune befall you. It is never a failure that stops what you're doing. The story will always progress!
1 Die showing 4 or greater is a standard success that pushes the story forward in the desired way.
2 or more Dice showing 4 or greater is a critical success that allows you the player to be rewarded in some way above progress.

Combat
Battles involve contrasting dice rolls to each other. In this case seeing who gets more dice of 4 or greater.
Attacking intends to down the opponent, inflict conditions, or otherwise be on the offense.
Defending intends to deny damage, move out of the way, or otherwise be on the defense.
Skill intends to use every other aspect of play to your advantage such as using terrain or "science" to turn the tide of battle in your favor.
HP is equal to your total dice. So a pokemon should have 4 HP at the start of the game.
Lowering HP means Attacking and overcoming the opponent's roll.
Attack vs Attack: The winner has the greater number of successes and takes no damage while the opponent takes damage equal to the number of dice showing 4 or greater. So in the instance of 3, 4, and 6 vs 1, 2, and 6: that's 2 successes vs 1 success. 2 HP is taken from the loser!
Attack vs Defense: Deduct the number of successes from Defense to the number of success from the Attack. So in the instance of 3, 4, and 6 vs 1, 2, and 6: the attack of 2 successes is reduced by 1 for a damage of 1.
Attack vs Skill & Skill vs Skill: This is entirely GM Fiat, meaning whatever the skill is intended to do can alter how it's ruled. I typically create more combat rules on the spot to make the combat favor one side or another.
There are no Defense vs Defense contests.
Rounds of combat are Players all go followed by Enemies all go in two phases.
If you're attacked you always have a chance to contest the roll, same for your opponents.
The order is loose and entirely at my discretion to adjust or alter. I don't intend to keep any turn orders, instead to have deadlines for posting.

Non-Combat
I don't want battles to dominate the RP so there will be plenty of skill challenges as well as pure RP moments.
I enjoy giving characters the opportunity to change or develop beyond the signup sheet. It's entirely up to you how you react to situations but please keep in mind that the overall goal here is to play, not to be overly dramatic.

Progression
Every challenge provides a reward whether or not you succeed.
Combat lets you add a die to your Attack or Defense.
Skill challenges allow you to increase a Skill with an extra die.
Pure RP allows you to have more than one skill stat or add a pokemon to your team!
