  • hey people, ok so i'm starting a new game on my sapphire version.
    I had to after I loaned it to my friend so he could breed some of my pokemon
    that he wanted...he used a gameshark and the codes he used messed up
    my game so had to start a new one...soo lame...

    anyway since it's been forevers I wanted opinions on some stuff
    like names for my character and which start I should use.

    here's the options for character names, any suggestions are welcome.

    Boy
    Brendan <-- I think that's supposed to be the character's name anyway
    Aaron
    Jesse
    Devon
    Dhani
    Josh

    Girl
    May
    Athena
    Kyra
    Allana
    Leslie
    Anya

    For my starter pokemon I'll be resetting 'til I get a female but it won't really
    matter as I've already got the eggs (soon to hatch) for each of them
    ready in my emerald version. I'll be trading them over as soon as I get 3 spare
    pokemon.

    but yep...suggestions please.
    of if anyone has some kind of nifty challenge I could try I'd be willing
    to give it a shot.

  • Well it doesnt really matter what you name your character. Personally i name my character the same name as mine or for a female i just use my girlfriends name.

  • ok so here's my game so far.
    I decided on

    Boy
    Name: Josh (my middle name)
    My pokedex so far
    32 Seen
    25 Owned.

    I decided to take the "bug challenge"
    so my team so far is Bug pokemon only.
    it took me like all afternoon but here's my team so far.

    Maquerain
    Lax - Lv.22
    @ King's Rock
    Bubble
    Sweet Scent
    Quick Attack
    Water Sport

    Ninjask
    Adamant - Lv.20
    @King's Rock
    Scratch
    Screech
    Fury Cutter
    Double Team

    Shedinja
    Adamant - Lv.20
    @ Silk Scarf
    Scratch
    Screetch
    Fury Cutter
    Double Team

    Dustox
    Impish - Lv.16
    @King's Rock
    Gust
    Poison Sting
    Confusion
    Tackle

    Beautifly
    Mild - Lv.13
    @King's Rock
    Gust
    Poison Sting
    Absorb
    Tackle

    as soon as I was able I caught some wurmple
    the 1st one evolved into Dustox and after 3 attempts
    I got one that evolved into Beautifly after being in the area
    a while raising both pokemon to Lv.10 I was lucky and ran into a Surskit.
    which then took a long time to raise into a Masquerain after it evolved
    I again started raising my Dustox and [/b]Beautifly[/b] I made
    my way over to Rustboro where I hunted for a Shedinja
    then after having caught one I went to route 103 where I raised it 'til evolution. At which point I stopped playing 'cuz it was late.

    All the while I caught pairs of all pokemon available in the areas I currently have access to, with the exception of Skitty which I only managed
    to find a male of. I'm currently in the cave where i'm supposed to deliver
    Steven's Letter to him, i'm in the first zone, hunting for a Female Abra and
    a Male Geodude.

    The battle with Roxanne wasn't as tough as I'd expected it to be
    I got real lucky with Masquerain and I landed a critical hit with Bubble
    on her Nosepass the other pokemon were already too weak
    to stand against my Masquerain. I was very happy 'cuz I was originally
    expecting I'd most likely lose the battle against her so you can imagine my
    reaction when I won, perfect battle Masquerain didn't take a single
    hit. I'm training in the cave for now, when my Dustox and Beautifly reach Lv. 20 I'll go fight brawly for his bad, by then I expect to have
    collected a pair of each of the pokemon available in the caves areas
    where I have access to without the mach bike. I'll update my current game
    status later.

    Especially when you go up against Flannery. Just ask Mr. Smile. LOL Hopefully you have been leveling up a Water/Ground/Rock-type along the way.

  • I actually decided pretty early on that this was gonna be my "bug challenge" team so yeah, can't use other types.
    Mr. Smile are you mental? Ninjask is nuts!!!
    so yeah, i'm dreading the next gym battle, it's Flannery...scared.
    so I now have a 6 member team here they are.

    Masquerain
    @King's Rock
    Lax - Lv.30
    Gust
    Sweet Scent
    Quick Attack
    Bubble

    Beautifly
    @King's Rock
    Mild - Lv.30
    Gust
    Stun Spore
    Mega Drain
    Morning Sun

    Dustox
    @King's Rock
    Impish - Lv.30
    Psybeam
    Moonlight
    Poison Sting
    Protect

    Shedinja
    @Quick Claw
    Adamant - Lv.30
    Scratch
    Screech
    Fury Cutter
    Spite

    Ninjask
    @King's Rock
    Adamant - Lv.21
    Scratch
    Screech
    Double Team
    Fury Cutter

    Volbeat
    @Silk Scarf
    Jolly - Lv.26
    Signal Beam
    Confuse Ray
    Quick Attack
    Moonlight

    never before have I raised a Volbeat so I was very surprised how useful Signal Beam turned out to tbe.
    at lv.25 it was able to take out all 3 of Archie's pokemon by itself, as expected Golbat was a bit of trouble but I sacrificed my Ninjask to it
    so I could get in a 2nd Screech then I finished it off with
    quick attacks from Volbeat after having confused it.
    Mightyena and Sharpedo were no problem at all.
    oh before u ask why I didn't use my other stronger pokemon is 'cuz I save
    my money to buy casino coins so I carry with me x4 zigzagoon at lv.3 and 4.
    their pick up ability is soo useful and so yeah i'm only training 2 bug poke's at
    a time once, Volbeat and Ninjask reach Lv.30 I'm gonna see if
    they're strong enough as a whole team to take on flannery. if that doesn't
    go well, which is very likely I'll level them all up to lv.40 and they should
    then be far more than strong enough to take her pokemon out.

    Well, yeah leveling up a Poke beyond the levels of your opponent will allow you to defeat any AI player in the game, but that takes a lot of the fun out of the game, similar to using Legis/Ubers. Good luck.

  • I dunno, I think i'm doing pretty good considering that I haven't needed
    to use more than 2 pokemon to defeat any of the gym leaders
    or trainers so far and they've all been pretty equal levels.
    I think I'll do alright against Flannery if I juse the whole team at lv.30
    I'm not worried about getting past her pokemons defenses it's
    Overheat that i'm worried about, not enough of my poke's know
    protect yet so they won't be able to defend against it and that worries me.
    if I could remember how many pp it has, i'm sure that I could beat
    her torkoal with shedinja alone, I've picked up enough picked up enough
    revives to keep bringing it back to fight and go for the win. so i'm not worried about it but I am a bit worried about my other pokes should one get hit by over heat they're toast...maybe I should buy revives.

    oh my current training thing same teams listed above but
    now Volbeat has reached Lv.30 and Ninjask is currently at lv.27.

    All you have to do is go edit your post and delete it. But like Mr. S said, please stop with the double posts. I am surprised that a mod hasn't warned you yet.

    Anyways, as I said before, the AI leaves A LOT to be desired. Even after three generations. I could make a team of 6 Magikarp and win the game with enough Revive, Potions, etc. It would be interesting though to see how long you would last in the Battle Frontier though when you cannot use any of those items.

  • ok y'all time for my update on my bug challenge thingy.
    here's my current team.

    Beautifly
    Mild - Lv.37
    @King's Rock
    Gust
    Stun Spore
    Silver Wind
    Mega Drain

    Dustox
    Impish - Lv.37
    @King's Rock
    Psybeam
    Moonlight
    Silver Wind
    Protect

    Shedinja
    Adamant - Lv.35
    @Quick Claw
    Scratch
    Screech
    Hidden Power - Ground
    Confuse Ray

    Ninjask
    Adamant - Lv.35
    @King's Rock
    Slash
    Screech
    Swords Dance
    Hidden Power - Ground

    Masquerain
    Lax - Lv.35
    @King's Rock
    Hidden Power - Flying
    Scary Face
    Quick Attack
    Bubble

    Volbeat
    Jolly - Lv.35
    @King's Rock
    Signal Beam
    Confuse Ray
    Quick Attack
    Protect

    ok, so I beat Flannery, I took her on when all my poke's were at Lv.30
    so it was an even match, it actually wasn't as hard as I was expecting it to be. only 2 of my poke's got knocked out and I obliterated Torkoal with
    Shedinja, I had to revive it once though, the 1st time out I had it use
    Spite, as it had just knocked out my Volbeat.
    when Shedinja 1st came out it got knocked out but I was able to
    eliminate all of Over Heat's PP's. then I braught out Masquerain...I'd forgotten inidimate wouldn't work, anyway I revived Shedjinja
    and then switched out Masquerain for Shedinja and YIPPEE
    I don't know why the computer didn't use Flamethrower on me.
    I remember it using the move before in the game but whatevers, Shedinja took out Torkoal all by itself with Fury Cutter.

    Immediately after that battle I healed and made my way towards Petalburg.
    I took on Norman's Gym. the big hero here agains the trainers anyway was
    Ninjask. When it came to normal it was a combined team effort. the 2
    Slaking's were tough as usual, but the surprising hero in that match was Masquerain who's nifty ability + some well timed switching out earned me
    the win. the 1st Slaking got taken out by my Volbeat after having confused it. Volbeat also did a number on Vigoroth but
    unfortunately it got knocked out but by then Vigoroth was too weak
    and I took it out with Beautifly as the last Slaking came out
    I went back to my switching out strategy with Masquerain this time
    using Dustox. I did this until Slaking's attack couldn't go any lower then I took it on with both Masquerain who got knocked out
    by a critical Facade when Slaking was at half HP. but the rest
    of the fight was taken care of by Dustox who's Psybeam managed to
    confuse Slaking who hit itself for the knock out.

    i'm Currently at the weather center. I've defeated Team Aqua.
    and I've defeated May and have recieved both Fly and a female
    CastformI had to reset once
    to get a female one. I'll be taking on Wynona's gym after some leveling up
    once my whole team is at Lv.40 I'll take her on. The only pokemon of hers
    that I see as being a serious problem is Skarmory. as it'll be resistant to
    pretty much all of my attacks. the fact that i'm pretty sure it knows Aerial Ace brings me no joy either.
    so yep...that's my progress for today...wish me luck people.

  • Alright y'all here's my current progress on the bug challenge!!!

    My team;

    Ninjask
    Adamant - Lv.41
    @Soft Sand
    Slash
    Hidden Power - Ground
    Swords Dance
    Screech

    Masquerain
    Lax - Lv.40
    @King's Rock
    Hidden Power - Flying
    Scary Face
    Quick Attack
    Stun Spore

    Volbeat
    Jolly - Lv.40
    @King's Rock
    Signal Beam
    Confuse Ray
    Quick Attack
    Protect

    Beautifly
    Mild - Lv.40
    @King's Rock
    Gust
    Stun Spore
    Giga Drain
    Silver Wind

    Dustox
    Impish - Lv.40
    @King's Rock
    Psybeam
    Toxic
    Silver Wind
    Protect

    Shedinja
    Adamant - Lv.40
    @Quick Claw
    Shadow Ball
    Screech
    Hidden Power - Ground
    Confuse Ray

    When I took on Wynona I was expecting her pokemon to be in the 40's.
    I remember them being in the 40's , but I was surprised to find they're in
    the low 30's which is kinda meh...she wasn't hard at all to beat.
    the battle went like this. I started with Ninjask who took out
    3/4 of Swellow's HP then got knocked out, I braught out Masquerain
    to finish off Swellow and then she braught out her Pelipper I took
    about half it's HP out with Masquerain then switched out to Dustox
    I realized the strategy I had used against Norman would probably be best
    against Wynona too, so I proceeded to heal my Masquerain and then
    did the switch in and out thing with Dustox and Masquerain 'til
    I lowered Pelipper's attack as low as it would go, then I braught out a fully
    healed Ninjask proceeded to Swords Dance 3 times to max
    out it's attack, I healed once with a super potion and then took out
    Pelipper with Slash Wynona then sent out Altaria
    this time my Slash got a critical hit, and I actually think it would
    have survived had it not been critical. the final pokemon was Skarmory
    who survived my 1st Slash and took my Ninjask down to
    12 HP with it's Aerial Ace attack, but since I'd taken it's HP down
    to just over a 1/3 of it's total with my 1st attack, I was able to finish it off
    on with my 2nd Slash attack for the win.
    So far, to me personally I think Norman's been the hardest Gym Leader to
    defeat. for the next Gym, I know Tate & Liza's pokemon are in the low 40's so
    i'm just gonna continue the story 'til i reach them
    I shouldn't level up much, especially since I'll be taking my full team with me
    just for the progress of the game and all. As soon as I reach Mossdeep I'm
    gonna take on the gym, I don't expect it to be too be troublesom at all
    since I have faught Solrock and Lunatone that other trainers
    in the game hand and even though our levels were pretty evenly matched
    I was able to take 'em out in 1 or two attacks each. Just in case though
    my 1st duo will be Volbeat and Shedinja should they fail,
    well 6 bug types with strong bug moves is my team so yeah...not freain' the next
    gym. I am however am a bit concerned about the final gym. Water poke's are
    soo freakin' tricky. Especially since only one of my poke's has a move
    that's super effective against 'em. I'll post further progress later on.

  • ok y'all haven't been posting for a few days, been busy with school.
    but yeah here's my progress and such.

    the Team

    Ninjask
    Adamant - Lv.51
    @King's Rock
    Slash
    Swords Dance
    Hidden Power - Ground
    Baton Pass

    Dustox
    Impish - Lv.50
    @King's Rock
    Psybeam
    Toxic
    Silver Wind
    Protect

    Volbeat
    Jolly - Lv.51
    @King's Rock
    Signal Beam
    Confuse Ray
    Quick Attack
    Protect

    Beautifly
    Mild - Lv.40
    @King's Rock
    Gust
    Stun Spore
    Giga Drain
    Silver Wind

    Shedinja
    Adamant - Lv.51
    @Quick Claw
    Shadow Ball
    Grudge
    Hidden Power - Ground
    Confuse Ray

    Masquerain
    Lax - Lv.50
    @King's Rock
    Hidden Power - Flying
    Silver Wind
    Quick Attack
    Stun Spore

    ok so here's my current progress
    the 8th gym was actually the easiest one, as expected.
    I captured Kyogre with releative ease, I used Shedinja to do it
    it was pretty much the same for the gym battle.
    I started off with Ninjask swords danced 3 times and then baton
    passed off to Shedinja and wiped the floor with dude's pokemon.
    victory road wasn't exactly easy due to the trainers and the wild
    zuba/golbat didn't make it any more enjoyable.
    I had to keep going back to heal a number of times.
    once I reached the exit though, Wally didn't pose any problem at all.
    he started out with Altaria as it set itself up for battle it allowed me to
    again with Ninjask swords dance the 3 times and then Baton Pass over to Shedinja for the win. at their current levels I really don't think my pokes are ready to take on all of the elite 4, I think I might train' 'em up to at
    least lv.60 before I take the challenge. I'm also thinking of starting to prepare
    for breeding my next team. Some raising of the parent pokemon will be required but it shouldn't take too long for it to go through alright.

    Anyone have any suggestions as to what my next team should be?
    keep in mind it'll be for competetive batteling. I'm lucky and have lots of
    people to play with around here so yeah. I was thinking of maybe raising
    a proper BUG pokemon team, with some better pokes and proper EV
    training.
