    [PokeCommunity.com] 12/4 - COTD - Lt. Surge's Magneton (Gym Heroes)

    Rate & Review.

Thanks to Water Pokemon Master from www.pokebeach.com for the scan.

I think for the period it was used it was actually a pretty good card. It's power can charge you in 1 turn, but it's 70 HP and 2 retreat cost are somehow a downside. The effect it does 20 to itself is also disappointing, if tails a 30 ground attack can finish him off. Compared to the cards now it's pretty below avarage, but in past it was a kinda good card ^^

    6.5/10

Sometimes I wonder why they even bothered with some attacks.

It's Hp is fine, but the [F] is a big disadvantage to have in unlimited. Unfortunately this card also lacks the [M] resistance that most Magnetons now have. Also it has an above average retreat for a Magneton.

On the right Pokemon, Energy Charge could be one of the best powers ever thought up. On a Pokemon that discards energy to do lots of damage it would be awesome (similar to a self TA Manectric). However I don't think Lt Surges Magneton is that card, since it is let down by its dreadful attack.

Its power will significantly help in powering Lt. Magneton during mid game, but once it has 4 energies, its power is quite useless. This is also not helped by the lameness of the attack.
For 4 energies on a stage 1, 50 damage is not even worth the expense.
Being [L][L][L][C] makes it even worse, ensuring that DCE can't help this card. What really makes this a joke is a flip to decide whether you receive 20 damage yourself, knocking its HP down to an appalling 50.
If I was to face this card, by the time it has enough energy to do a measly 50 damage to my active, chances are it would be KOd pretty quickly.

    Play a better card. 2.5/10

WTF? 4 energy for 50 with a NEGATIVE side effect? It's bloody worse than 95% of the Basics!

That alone earned itself a 0/10!
Maybe the power can pull it up a bit and earn it a 2/10...

P.S: Seriously, who made this crap?

Because the negative effect is brought on by a tail flip, Solarys.

It should be noted that Energy costs are now generally lower than the start in the old Wizards-produced cards. Comparing it to other cards of the time, it's not as bad as it happens to be now. Energy Charge helps a lot, but it still doesn't measure up to Energy Trans, its theoretical antecedent, since it only affords Lt Surge's Magneton the power. Retro rating 5/10, updated rating 2/10.
