    Hey guys,
I am a long time lurker, and I figured it is time to contribute.

This is a great place to get information, but the tools, tutorials, and guides are all over the place. It is tough to figure out what tutorial is for what versions, what tutorials are outdated etc.
But I am not here to complain, oh no. I come with a solution!
Since this is the main location for Pokemon rom hacks on the internet, why not consolidate all of the tutorials, guides, and tools into one big wiki. I am sure it would help newcomers and veterans alike find and share music in a more straight forward and organised manner.

If anyone is interested, I will open a wikispaces account and we can figure out how to migrate everything over. Hopefully the authors of the tutorials/tools would not mind, especially if we link back to the original thread that it was posted in. Because it is a wiki, the authors would be able to move their content over themselves.

Not only that, but each modding team will be able to make a page for their team's hack, and keep it updated. This would be much easier to see how a hack is coming along as opposed to searching through 50+ pages of posts.

Anyway, I think with the type and amount of information on this forum, it all lends itself to the wiki format. I am in college right now, and college is French for "WAY too much free time," so I have enough time to at least get the wiki started.

Finally, I am sorry if I posted this in the wrong location, This seemed the best place for it.

We don't really need a wiki, if you'd look at the stickies, you'd find the good tutorials and stuff. That being said, if they were to agree with such a silly idea, it'd be run by a staff member and not you.

Umm, those options in the poll are very...Odd! XD
Either we accept your idea, or you leave and never return (According to the poll). Why couldn't you just have a simple "yes" and "no"? XD
Anyways, the idea is good an all, but I don't think it would be worth the trouble....Most members are already used to finding the tutorials and stuff they need, so I think that if you try this, nobody will use it, and a lot of your work will go to waste...=)

While the idea does sound very good, I don't think it'd work for a number of reasons (but the more I think about it, the better I think it would be).

First off, connectivity. I know we can link back to the original post from the wiki, but it's so much easier to be able to post right away, and be able to see all other related posts. I think the best part of the ROM hacking section is the opportunity to help and be helped by others. Suggestions can be made, mistakes pointed out, assistance given, and so on. A wiki doesn't provide such a functionality. In addition, this idea risks splitting up everyone, and I'd guess that those that tend to frequent the wiki more will be more likely to miss out on the advantages that the forum provides.

It'd also just be a massive task to put everything up and keep it updated. Yes, members can help, but what if they don't want to or they forget? They certainly wouldn't be able to be forced.

There's also the matter of standards. While obviously documents, tutorials and tools go through a screening process, they don't all reach the same standard. I've seen tutorials that are all over the place, leave stuff out, and heck, even get stuff wrong. Who's going to check and fix all that? (Though in all fairness, these things have improved greatly over the past year or so).

Would a wiki provide that much of an advantage over the current set-up the forums have, if any? I personally don't mind the organisation we have at the moment, though it is easy to lose thing.

But yeah, despite all that, I still think it's a very good idea. The only thing that really holds it down is just the incredible amount of work it'd take to get up and running, and even that won't matter if the project has a lot of support.

Lastly, you only have one post. I know that shouldn't mean anything, but no one even knows how long you'll stick around for, and you certainly haven't established any commitment to this place (yet).

Wow, usually you write unnecessarily long posts, but this time, even though the idea was well thought out, detailed, and came with an absolutely fantastic diagram, you post just one line. Quite rude and disrespectful I think.

Also, staff members already have enough to do. I think if such an idea were to get off the ground, normal users would have to help, especially with maintenance. I mean, that is what a wiki is all about.

Yeah, you guys are right. Looks like its back to lurking for me.

Paint me Pretty, Smeargle, I was hoping a staff member would see this and go with it. Oh well, it was worth a shot.

I still think it is tough trying to figure out what version a specific guide/tool is for, but if you guys can figure it out I should be able to figure it out too.

I agree with what they said but hey dont be down, Way to go for you expressing your ideas =)
