Powers/Abilities/Weapons: Miharu has Kikyo's spiritual power, but instead of her spiritual power manifesting in an arrow, it manifests, instead, as a katana. She can also sense presences, evil or otherwise; generally ghosts and demons. She also happens to be a medium. Her spiritual powers are not as strong as Kikyo or Kagome, but she can speak to ghosts and sense demons much easier than the two. She has also trained in Karate since she was five years old and is a third dan. She is a very good hand-to-hand combatant.
Appearance: Miharu, like her ancestor, has long, flowing black hair. It reaches up to the end of her back, but she generally finds the length bothersome and keeps it up in a ponytail. Her mum doesn't allow her to cut her hair. She also has narrowed dark brown eyes that are only a shade away from black. She has the usual pale skin colour of a Japanese person. She is 5'6 and weighs about 120lbs. Due to her Karate training she has very prominent muscles as well as a four pack. She has a few scars, most are due to scraping her skin. She does not wear makeup or jewelry and does not have any tattoos.
Miharu wears mostly baggy clothing; usually a black t-shirt and black cargo pants. One thing that she doesn't go without, it clips to her pants, is her iPod shuffle: black with black earphones. She generally wears black sneakers with her outfit, although she likes going barefoot.
Personality: Despite her all black attire, Miharu generally finds herself quite chipper. She doesn't like to show weakness or pain, so she hides all of her pain (emotional or physical) behind a huge grin. She can be outgoing, loud, and have no tact. She is very brutally honest, but she is also very sarcastic. Sometimes, she'll isolate herself from a group and look thoughtful or just plain being quiet. Miharu had always wondered if she was bipolar or if she had multiple personality disorder. With people she has a good feeling on, she can be very kind and won't mind talking to the person. If she gets a bad feeling, however, she can fairly cold and distant. She generally likes to reference shows and books that she's watched and read, and especially likes to read and reference to TV Tropes as well. She is a fairly good at deducing things and is able to read body language fairly well due to her training. This also works in combat; from the stance and the way their body twitches before they move, she can tell where they will aim and what they will use. She can be fooled though. She is also very polite to those older than her, because of the way she was brought up and her Karate, yet she likes to act insane because, to her, it is fun to see how people would react to insanity and it allows her to act as crazy as she gets. She's extremely awkward as well and will get in your face and make you uncomfortable. She seems unaware of this, but she is aware and does it for fun and to see reactions. Everything she does is to see reactions from people.
History: Miharu was born in Kyoto, Japan. She had a Japanese mother, a Japanese-American father, and a very older Japanese sister. When she was five, they ended up moving to America due to her father's company relocating them. She had started school, unable to speak in English except for a few words, yet she studied hard and managed to learn English fairly quickly. After learning English, she grew up speaking both languages quite fluently. After finishing middle school, her father's company ended up sending them back to Japan.
She was fourteen when they made the move and although her parents had raised their children in the Japanese culture, Miharu thought that the culture was very different from America: they held buckets in punishment, they had school on Saturdays, and everyone referred each other by their last names. After getting used to be calling Miharu for nine years of her life, being called Mizushima quite suddenly was very disconcerting. Also, having lived in America, many of peers thought that she was dangerous and stayed away. There were many rumors rampant about how she had been a leader of a gang and did drugs. Her only safe haven was her dojo. She had started Karate in America but had continued to learn even after the move to Japan. She had already been a second degree black belt before moving, but found herself far behind her second degree black belt peers; she was around the same level as a first degree. She caught up quickly and surpassed them as well. She earned her third degree black belt when she was sixteen and has continued studying for her fourth degree. Many of her peers have acknowledged her skills in Karate that went to the dojo.
She also joined her school's Kendo team, much to many students' disgust. However, she became one of the top Kendo students in the country (number 3) and her peers grudgingly admitted that she was good at Kendo.
Yet, even at a young age, she showed her ability to see ghosts. When she was four, she saw her first ghost but, as she was young, hadn't known it was a ghost. It wasn't until she was ten when her grandfather had died and she saw him did she realize that she had been seeing ghosts the whole time. Her spiritual power had shown itself when she was eleven; she had seen a demon near her sister's room. It attacked her when it noticed that she could see it. Miharu had managed to destroy the demon by her spiritual power kicking it. Her family had agreed to keep her powers a secret.
Over the years, she has slowly gained some popularity, generally from her Kendo and Karate exploits as well as her good grades (she has the second highest grades in the school). She has a group of close friends: Kimura and Ryu. She even has, to her surprise and disgust, a fanclub. There are still some people who feel that she is a foreigner and should go back to America, but the majourity of the students have accepted Miharu.
