Why should it not work? GPS works perfectly in antarctica, so all you need is an internet connection, which you can do via sattelite. Many stations have internet, ships and aircraft often have internet, wireless lan is easy to do. I wonder if they even have any cellphone support apart from local wireless lan, they might skip directly to sattelite phone instead.
Lure modules work.
And people on ferries and cruise ships found out, if there are no pokemon nearby, then the smoke thing will attract RANDOM pokemon, which is really awesome for getting rare neutral pokemon, like Snorlax. Its basically as random as what you get from eggs. Obviously some more stuff from 2km eggs and not much from 10km eggs, but still, its pretty good.
So, yeah, its not too bad.
