It all started off with a speculation, around the time of the FireRed and LeafGreen releases, that Johto would also get a remake like Kanto did.

As longing fans waited, time passed, and no remake.

So people started making hacks from the Generation 3 games, such as the infamous ShinyGold and LiquidCrystal.

More time passed, and we got into the Generation 4, into the hated and loved Sinnoh games.

After Diamond and Pearl, speculations intensed because back in Generation 3, FireRed and LeafGreen came out after the first two games, Ruby and Sapphire.

But instead, Sinnoh got it's third installment, Platinum, but the speculations continued.

Even some word of a DuskGold and DawnSilver surfaced, but in the end was proven fake.

Just as people were dropping the total idea of a remake and focusing on Generation 5, Pokemon sunday announced the games HeartGold and SoulSilver!

Major uproar was heard all over the Pokemon fan based websites. Speculations of what the game would be like were everywhere. This was one game I doubt anybody was giving a second thought about.

Everyday gave us another slither of news, such as the layout of specific cities, character sprites, even the tiles!

Than bigger news came, such as Kotone, or Lyra as she's called in the English Games, would be replacing Kris (Which some people still hate), and the fact that your Lead Pokemon would follow you.

After that, bigger pieces of info were leaked, such as new additions like the Pokeathalon and the Apricorn system.

But what I believe rocked the fan abse the most was the annoucement of the PokeWalker, truly somehting that made these games betetr than all the rest. You could actually walk outside, at school, in P.E class, around the house, absolutely anywhere, and you would gain Watts which could be put to getting items, Pokemon, new areas in the PokeWalker, etc.

With the release of HeartGold and SoulSilver in Japan, everyone in the world wanted their hands on these games, Japanese or not.

Lots of people got the games in Japan, but foreveryone else, they waited for the English release. That's when it got good.

Now we could finally understand what they had been saying the whole time when we watched those sneak peeks and screenshots.

I don't thin kanybody was dissapointed by the game in any way, shape or form.

It topped D/P/Pt tenfold, if not more. Thought it had to keep some of the things from those games, such as the WiFi games and the Accessories, most of it was changed, and changed for the better!

New music, new tiles, new sprites for the Kanto and Johto Pokemon, TOTAL new plot in the game, the actual difficulty of the Gym Leaders opposed to the old version, and so much more, it would take forever to list.

But my favorite part of the games was the actual fact of bonding with you Pokemon individually instead of having to hear their feelings from Dr. Footprints or Daisy. You could actually talk to them and hear what they were doing or feeling. It actually let me slow down and actually admire the game for what it really is, like it was in the anime. And with the PokeWalker, i get to take that feeling whereever I go, which pushes me to take the long way to class or walk home instead of take the bus. And it's already making me feel better.

So if you ask me, HeartGold and SoulSilver was way beyond the previous games by Pokemon. The fact that it brought a whole new feeling and nostalgia to the Pokemon franchise is unbelievable.

I would suggest this game to any Pokemon fan, even if they hated the old versions. Because this isn't just a remake of Gold and Silver to me.

It's an actual remake of the whole Pokemon games.

No matter what complains I've had about a new game I end up respecting the fact that not everyone can be pleased with the same thing, and the fact that the programmers took so much efforts into making the game - So I appreciate every moments of my new games.

I felt your words. So true (:
I've never been into a pokemon game like I have been with my Soul Silver <3

It was great to see Game Freak outdo themselves with these games. They definately deserved a cheer.

I too loved the aspect about the pokemon following you, and all the interaction.

Only problem is it's too good, I can't get pokemon I want, and can't settle, so I only made it as far as Saffron once, and am currently working on Platinum (so many more pokemon available earlier that I want, i.e. Buizel, Gible, Houndour).

Pokethlon was meh for me, as I couldn't do it, but I love the Pokecommunity Skin!!

Glad that it had things (apparently) different from G/S/C, as it meant I hadn't a clue about it, despite knowing some of the plotline from those games (even though I've never played them).

I love the music in this one! I just wish you could get some Sinnoh nighttime music, i.e. Pokemon Center, where Sinnoh's nightime music was way better than any irritating daytime themes.

EDIT: I just wish that awesome bit with the orange trees had some music, it'd really suit Vermilion City's theme, and it would just add to the theme more. Although I guess lack of music represents how the monk won't let anybody past unless they're as epic as you?

I also struggle with keeping a team Riqueza...
I have restarted after getting far with many good teams - i once restarted a game when i had a shiny growlithe :(

But thats what i love about this game, the fact that i can go back again and again making new teams and ultimately having fun with the same game...

This has been my favorite installment of the pokemon series...

But i expect the new games will be mindblowing awesome... ;D

You're having trouble with teams? The thing is, in Johto, there are so many combinations, it's unbelievable.

    Cool Story bro!

Nawww, but, it mirrors word for word exactly how I feel about Heart Gold and Soul Silver. I coulden't have said it better.

Also, with the new music for Ho-oh, and Lugia (or Lugia and Ho-oh) I feel like it's Christmas 2000 again, every time I play.

It's a worthy remake and at the same time, it stand out as a new product itself too.

A shame about the Game Corner though. :/

I LOVED THE MUSIC WITH HO-OH! i played it over like 5 times since the Kimono girls dance made it seem so Japanesed traditioned, and the bells that toll when Ho - oh comes made it better.

And about the game corner, that was the major letdown since you could get such cool Pokemon like Porygon or Dratini there. I didn't even play the games, I would just buy them from the person at the counter but for some reaso , they took it out. So i don't even bother with it anymore.

You know HG/SS were amazing, and possibly better than D&P but I'm a Sinnoh lover so I might not say it's that good :P, but at the same time I just feel...kinda let down after playing it all. I had an amazing time with it, but once I got to Kanto and I got to battle any gym at any time it sort of got boring. And with beating red now I've stopped playing again and haven't touched it since earlier this week (wednesday). Might go pick it up and play some tonight.

I agree. Kanto just felt so empty compared to Johto; the gyms weren't anywhere as challenging, and it just felt like some filler prior to Red.

I agree about Kanto feeling empty. Back when I was littler and I was playing Silver, I was like "OMG, everyone left Kanto!" because there wasn't nearly the amount of trainers & I beat all the gym leaders in 2 hours.

They needed more plot on the Kanto side. Lol.

    That was beautiful man sob.....

I too have noticed the emptiness of Kanto...

I mean the very little linear direction is quite off putting as i am unsure as to which gym to start with...
Its been about a week or two since i have properly played HG because of various reasons (Exam times! :()

I still love this game so much, but now i am looking forward to Black & White as i really do not have much desire to play the Kanto region... it just looks hollow and rushed...

I agree with the OP about this game, it truly rocks.
I also agree with the last comments, Kanto felt hollow. And the Game Corner is the worst. It's like they didn't want you to play it in this game.
But overall the good beats the bad and this was a neat experience for me, since I played the original GS and now there's all this improvements, it rocks!
