A NON-Trick room Doubles team

These two form an unbelievable combo.Rhyperior allows gyrados its boost,while EQing the hell out of others.
Fire punch also covers the grass wknesses.

Set up sweepers do not work in doubles. Ever. Doubles is way too fast paced for things like that to happen. Heck, even getting up a Substitute is hard.

Weather teams also compeletely demolish you, as do Trick Room teams.

Firstly, I would drop Gyarados and pair Rhyperior with a Mixed Tyranitar, preferably with Protect/Dark Pulse/ Rock Slide or Superpower/ Thunderbolt or Ice Beam or Flamethrower. This makes for a nasty combination with Rhyperior's Solid Rock and Tyranitar's Sand Stream, creating a very bulky combination that is hard to take down unless Sand Storm is wiped out.

I also recommend Rock Slide on Rhyperior for hitting two Pokemon at once, which is really awesome in Double Battles.

Magnezone dies to pretty much everything in Doubles, even after a Magnet Rise. The same goes for Sceptile. You can pair Rhyperior with an incoming Zapdos with Discharge, Heat Wave, Hidden Power of choice or Protect, and Roost or Hidden Power of choice. Parahax spreading can be vital to crippling weather sweepers like Chlorophyll or Swift Swim abusers.

Another great Pokemon in Doubles play is Hitmontop, who can abuse priority to no end with Fake Out, Mach Punch, Bullet Punch, and Sucker Punch in its arsenal. Choose Fake Out, Mach Punch, your choice of the latter two, and Close Combat, and Hitmontop can become pretty dangerous to fight. I would highly recommend it.

Gyarados + Rhyperior looks great on paper, but doesn't work so well in doubles. Discharge is more often used than Thunderbolt and will hit Gyarados regardless of LightningRod. Also, Gyarados isn't covering Rhyperior's weakness to Grass/Ice/Water, which will easily KO it if they're Special Attacks.

Like Skip Shot said, don't use Substitute or Stat boosting moves. They will more often than not cause you to lose rather than win. Focus on offensive moves, field effect moves, as well as moves that prevent your opponent from attacking.

Despite what Skip Shot suggested, Tyranitar isn't that good in doubles if it isn't used in a Trick Room team, and neither is Rhyperior. The main attraction behind Rock Slide, besides hitting both opponents, is its high chance of Flinching one or both opponents. But Tyranitar and Rhyperior are both too slow to take advantage of that without the Trick Room effect. Since you don't want this to be a Trick Room team, that won't work out.

A good offensive combo to use in doubles that doesn't require Trick Room or any turns of setup is the ZapChomp combo:

Uh, no it isn't. Garchomp is banned in Singles, but there are no decisive tiers in doubles. The only Pokemon that are banned are the Uber legendaries and maybe event legendaries if you play by VGC rules.
