4th Gen A Question about EV's

So i have gotten a brand spanking new Electivire lvl 50 from pokemon battle revolution. It had never been EV trained before so i set out to train it in it's attack stat. i had gotten it's attack stat to 172 EV's i was going to use 8 proteins to max out it's EV's for attack but once i got to it it said that it wouldn't have any effect on the electivire. I used carbos on it for speed to raise it's speed to 100 already.

anyways now that you know the background information my question is:
Is it because that i already EV trained it to 172 that the protein will have no effect? or is it because of any other other possible reason? Or is it because it is from pokemon battle revolution and it gets that boosted exp that it also gains EV's doubled and i have already maxed out it's attack stat as 172 X 2 = 344 > 255?

I'm not 100% sure, but I think that if you already started EV training, you can't use vitamins. Again, I'm not sure.

You have maxed out the evs for attack there fore the vitamins will have no effect.
