For a college assignment I have to write and record two contrasting songs, I thought I'd post the lyrics here for a bit of feedback.
Fog
I saw, I saw the world,
And while with blinded eyes,
I walked, I wandered through,
Searching for my demise,
I walk around in circles,
Seeing the same old new sights,
I'll walk this invisible world,
Until it fades with the night,
I fade, I fade in and out,
Just riding my carousel,
Waiting for the world to turn,
And to be freed from your spell,
I walk around in circles,

This song is written from the perspective of a depressed individual, I chose to title the song "Fog" as it is a transparent substance that restricts the visibility of things at a distance, reflecting how people with depression can sometimes feel overlooked by the rest of society or have an urge to blend in and not draw attention to themselves.
First Verse
"I saw, I saw the world" suggests that the speaker has travelled to many different places, however "while I had blinded eyes" implies he didn't see anything, suggesting that he was instead wandering without direction, I placed this line in the song to reflect the feeling of isolation from the rest of the world and worry that life is leading nowhere that is very common in sufferers of depression. "I walked, I wandered through, searching for my demise" confirms that he was wandering without direction and suggests that the only thing he expected to find was his death, which he viewed as an inevitability either through suicidal feelings or a fear of his mortality.
Chorus
"I walk around in circles" tells the audience of how the speaker feels like his life is repetitive and he is trapped in a vicious circle, this was placed to coincide with the feelings of being without direction of the first verse and middle eight, strengthening the themes. The lines "Seeing the same old new sights" and "I'll walk this invisible world" represent how he wanderers around but never actually takes notice of anything, meaning he has a very bleak view on life and his surroundings. "Until it fades with the night" is a reference to how his dark view on the world and literally says he will be depressed his depression fades away.
Verse Two
The first line "I fade, I fade in and out" represents how fog will gradually fade in and out of view and symbolises once again the speakers feelings of insignificance, showing that he feels like he fades in and out of visibility, like he's being surrounded by fog. "Just riding my carousel" uses a seemingly fun and innocent object to display a feeling of misdirection, representing a loss of innocence. "Waiting for my world to turn" represents how the speaker feels like his world has stopped turning as his life seems to be going nowhere and describes how his world is stuck in one place, like an eternal night. "And to be freed from your spell" suggests that the speaker's current mental state is caused or exacerbated by another person, most likely through heartbreak or unrequited love.
Middle 8
The middle 8 is very similar to the first verse as the first and third lines are exactly the same, this is to strengthen these lines through repetition and develop them by placing different lines after them. "But it never saw me" symbolises how the speaker feels invisible and "Roaming but never free" again describes how he feels lost and trapped in his situation.
