    Beginner's Handbook

    A Beginner's Handbook

Here is a bunch of tips piled together by experienced trainers to help out new ones. Some apply to the new Heart Gold and Soul Silver, others to all games. Post here if you have any tips or want some kind of advice on anything to raising pokemon to Contests or story events.

    (Will update with new tips.)
Here's what we got so far
    • The "Gentlemen" type trainers hand out a lot of cash for each win. (Last one was 9800$) So attach an Amulet Coin to your head pokemon for big prise money. (Sasuke.)
    • Falkner uses Bird-Type pokemon, Electric is super effective against it. When you get to Violet city, go to Route 32, and there is limited grass you can search. Search there for a bit for a Mareep. Mareep learns Thundershock at level 10. Use Thundershock against the Gym and it should be flying colors to beat it.(Xadet)
    • A pokemon's nature, personality and gender are decided when the old man turns left. The IVs are decided when you receive the egg. (level.)
    • Right after you capture Red Gyarados, go to Mr. Pokemon and receive the exp. share. Then when you go back to the Rocket HQ in Mahogany dont turn off the security and walk in front of the Persian statues. This is an easy way to gain exp. especially if you want to lvl up a lower lvl pokemon with the exp share (sdc10)
    • If you are finding the game to hard, start over, and train only 1 pokemon. This will allow you to have it around 10 lv.s higher than your oponents, makeing it easy to 1 hit gyms. (X75Flames)
    • Following up on the last one. Evolving your starter before you receive your Pokedex turns out for a much easier game. (Sasuke.)
    • Always save before taking on any legendary pokemon. You would be surprised how many People I have heard who do not do this, bring Full Restores (Dreadnought)
    • Tons of revives make for a smoother, easier Elite four battle. Rather than wasting money on potions, try those. (Sasuke.)
    (Thanks Hiiro for the move.)

This thread seems more versatile to all generations, rather than just one specific gen or region. In that case, I'll just move this on over to General Pokémon Gaming as it seems to fit better off there.

    Thanks.
I decided then I'll compile them into the first post too.

Updated first post with new tips from the above. :]

Even better than starting over and training one pokemon, start over and train 2-3 pokemon. They still stay 10+ levels above other people's pokemon, and then if one happens to be knocked out, then you have one or two more pokemon to use in battle. I played through Fire Red that way, and I had no trouble with ANY gym leader.

If anyone has problems, they can ask in the simple Q&A. This would just be another sticky no one would bother to read.

    Locked.
