This might sound stupid but, How do I know if users on here are online? is there an icon that shows that they are online/offline? Or is there just none because I can't see one.

There's a little symbol next to the usernames that has a different shape depending on what theme you're using.
Usually that symbol is coloured green when the user is online and is gray when they are offline/invisible. :3
In Route 167 that would be a pokéball.

You can also click "open contacts popup" in quick links up the top to see if your friends are online. :)
Down the bottom of PC's index, there is also a large list of users that are online, too.Also want to mention that some people have their on/offline status set to invisible so that other members can't see it. Not everyone does that, but some people do. So in some cases, some people are online even when they're not. lol
No matter what skin you're using, there should be some sort of icon next to a member's username. Hover over it and it'll say "Sydian is online" or something like that.
