2nd Gen About Silver...

I have a copy of silver with the save battery dead (greatest disappointment of my life - I was ready to cry tears of nostalgia and then suddenly "New Game, Options"... where's my "Continue???" :'(), and because silver was the greatest thing, I was considering buying a save battery on eBay and making it work again. Possibly the best $20 I will ever spend.

A few questions -- should I do it? Have any of you ever done that sort of thing? to success?

Also, can you battle red more than once? I know in HG/SS you can, and I have SS, but it doesn't capture that same magic that Silver did for me.

You could always download an emulator and play it on that.
Personally though I've never tried replacing the battery (I don't even have a gameboy anymore). I don't think you can battle Red more than twice, I can't really remember...

Google how to do it, there are detailed guides (I've never done it myself though). As long as you have the correct tools and follow the procedure, it should work.
And yes, you can battle Red as many times as you like (once per day). I used to use him for leveling once my Pokémon got up into the 80-90 range.

I played emulators so much, and then I got Silver again, and I just liked the actual game so much more. Before I had even gone so far as to put a GBC emu on my R4, but it sucked, and it reset. Seriously, I was playing, and I saved, tried opening, and there was the Two-Option Menu from Hell.

Yeah, do it. Replace the battery. If a butter-fingery person like myself is able to then anyone can. I've done it thrice.

You can battle Red once for every time you've beat the E4. Beat Red, Beat E4, then Red will be there, Beat Red, then E4...

That's such a relief! I was worried that it was just a theoretical thing, to replace the battery.

And I though that Red was a one-time thing. Oh, how I love Silver..
