Absol? hmmmm?. Looks good, but is it really worth training? Of course! Why else would I be here explaining to you how loving and caring? and relentless he really is? This guy can really pack a punch if you take your time, and follow these instructions!

Let?s start with some potential moves shall we?

    Absol
    Baton Pass (Egg Move)
    Swords Dance (Level 26)
    Aerial Ace (TM 40)
    Shadow Ball (TM 30)

I?ll start with Swords Dance. This will add on to Absol?s already-insane attack stat. How cheap, for his attack is up there with some of the strongest pokemon in the entire game! And plus, he?s a one-stager! Anyway, Swords Dance greatly increases his Attack stat. You can either use a fat ol? Hyper Beam, or go for another ?Dance?.

Let?s cut right to the important part of this analysis. Baton Pass. Many amateur trainers find this move a waste of space in your moveset. That?s because they do not understand the secret behind this move. After using Swords Dance about 3-4 times, you can use Baton Pass to carry Swords Dance onto the pokemon you switch in for Absol. So Swords Dance stays in play, so you can get a monster with even greater Attack out. Who you ask? Slaking. Do not panic, as incredibly lazy this pokemon may be, he has a purpose. He has the (if I?m not mistaken) highest Attack stat in the game! This gives him an insane Attack stat indeed. I suggest making your Slaking hold a Silk Scarf, as well as knowing Hyper Beam (TM 15). This way, you can blast an insane Hyper Beam off, receiving an STAB, a bonus form the Silk Scarf as well, and the already high Attack stat, AND the Swords Dance. Yeah. Insta-Kill.

How incredibly perfect. A Dark type pokemon with a flying type move? How utterly perfect, for Dark?s main weakness is indeed Fighting. Yes? it?s Aerial Ace. Perfect. Absol?s insanely high attack, plus his above average speed will give him the edge in a match against a Fighting type. There is also that chance you were using Swords Dance, getting ready to Baton Pass, when your opponent switches out with a Fighting type. How sinister. That Swords Dance will definitely help.

Shadow Ball. Heh?. Even if he isn?t a Ghost type, this move will prove much more useful than any Dark type move that he is able to learn. Why is this? Shadow Ball is a Physical Attack, using his Attack stat instead of his not-so-hot Sp. Attack stat. There is also one more thing? most Psychics have more Special Defense than Defense?. So Shadow Ball is going to to a ton of damage; Super Effective, Swords Dance (Possibly), and it benefits from is insane Attack stat. Shadow Ball is excellent even without an STAB.

Well, that?s all I have to say About Absol. I think I blew enough steam for today. And sorry if I rambled on about Baton Pass for a while. It?s just a great move. So many hidden combinations. Oh so fun.

    Until next time!

yes Absol indeed is a very annoying guy if played properly... you can also replace one of the attack moves with Protect to abuse pressure even more (hey suffer one attack from them to kill off 4 pp... not a bad trade if you ask me)

Return over aerial ace is also a possibility, for the power of brute force. Flying is rather useless except for fighting types (since grass type isn't a popular pick, aerial ace is only good for fighting types now). If your other team members got quite a punch against fighting types, may as well switch them over for return to deal with more types.

Interesting... I never have thought of Return. Thank you for the replie and suggestions

Return is actually Absol's strongest attack in terms of attack power. Let's compare!

Aerial Ace- 60 attack power, flying
    Return- 102 (max happiness), normal
    Shadowball- 90, ghost

since none of them gets STAB, and assuming that the opponent will be neutral against all 3 element, return will do the most damage. Shadowball should be kept on Absol to destroy ghost types (Shedinja and Dusclops) and most importantly to kill the psychic types... Aerial ace on the other hand can do nothing but kill fighting types (it can kill grass but grass isn't a popular pick anyway). So why not get return? it is 40 attack power higher than Aerial Ace you know...

    Again, EV distro.

    Absol stats w/o EVs:
    Speed- 186
    Defenses - 156

Note how low they are. Insert pokemon. Insert attack, and Absol's HP would be instantly cut to less than 50%. Boost your defense? Your best bet would be to get off 1 Swords dance MAX, unless you have a SALAC BERRY to raise the speed when your HP is low, to ensure the best chance of Baton passing. Or else, it'd be:

    go!
    Go!

    Attack!
    Swords dance!

    Attack! Absol faints!

Absol cannot sword dance in most occassion... it's best for Absol to only use sword dance if the opponent is a staller or status inflicter... Pokemon like Dusclops are a good choice to use sword dance. And if you see a Pokemon like Sandslash... you either run as if it's Armageddon (sp?) or fight for life by releashing one last return... sword dance would be the last thing you want to do.

EV distribution- attack and speed (to make speed at least half decent... it got poor speed for a physical sweeper. Agility pass maybe needed)

You can opt for the Salac berry, so if they hit you and you get <50%, your speed raises in time for you to BP it away. Although Ninjask is by far a better passer...

    Sup Mana? Hehehe, so this is where you chill when you're not at KL O_o;
Anyway, Ninjask sounds like a good passer to me... speed boost. I wasn't aware that it was able to pass it's speed gains after using it's ability.

Maybe an Amnesia pass to Absol? Then you have to worry about physical from killing you off, which is why I suggested Aereal Ace, to take out Fightings

Well, Amnesia raises SpD, not D (you're thinking of Barrier/Iron Defense). Anyways, Absol wouldn't be on my list of awesome things to use on a team anyhow (hehe), and if there was fighting, if Salac berry kicked in, you can baton pass out (unless it's a speed-fighter like Primeape or something), if not... switch out? It depends on the speed of the fighter and how many Dances you pulled off.

Alright! A topic on Absol! *cheers*

I like the idea of using Return, though what about Double-Edge? I'm neutral about Swords Dance and Aerial Ace. Also, how about Rest? I could attach a Chesto (?) berry on my Absol, have her use Swords Dance twice, use Rest to regain the lost HP and awaken her immediately afterwards with the berry or a Blue Flute.

You can?t use items in Link Cable battles, so Blue Flute is out. However, if you have a Chesto Berry attached, it will automatically awaken Absol when he is put to sleep by Rest. That way you can awaken your Absol in Link battles.

You find absol to the right of Fortree City, so just search in the grass to the right.
