Advanced Generation series thoughts

I was just wondering what people's thoughts were on the Advanced Generation, since I just finished watching it and I haven't seen that much discussion on it here.

-Overall, I think it was a pretty good series but not without issues. There were some great battles in the gyms, the Hoenn league (though they could've done better than finishing with Pikachu vs Meowth I think), and the battle frontier. There were several filler episodes that I felt were better than the ones in Johto. Ash, Brock, and May underwent some nice character development too. I did find May and Max really annoying at first, May got better later on but still whiny but Max remained annoying imo. I like Misty more, but at least May got more of a defined goal and more character development.

-I liked having Brock back but I hated that it felt like he was just there to be May and Max's babysitter at times. It also felt like they brought him back because Ash wasn't capable of being the leader. However, it was great that they did give him some more focus later on and let him come into his own as someone who really knows his way with Pokemon.

-I liked most of the Gen 3 Pokemon too, especially Spoink! I thought it was hilarious that Spoink would put random round objects and Pokemon on its head when it lost its pearl.

-Professor Birch and Drew were good new characters too, I wish they had Birch in some more episodes. The Team Aqua and Magma episodes were really good. I wish there were more of them in the later seasons of the series. The Pokemon contests were alright, but I don't think they really added anything. They're not that compelling compared to battles.

-Season 9 had some great battles in the battle frontier, but some of the new voices just didn't sound right. They did well enough with Brock, May, Max, Jessie, and Meowth's voices, but Ash sounded like he went through puberty overnight and James' voice got kinda creepy. Ash didn't have the same emotion he had in his voice before either. Also, the first few episodes of the season had dubbing that was almost as bad as the old Godzilla movies. The CGI they added looked cheesy too. The callbacks to the early seasons at the end of the season just felt kind of random and I didn't like how rushed the last episode felt. They didn't set up Ash going to the next region like they set up Ash going to Johto and Hoenn, it just happened immediately after he lost to Gary. Morrison and Harley are probably the most irritating characters I've seen so far too.

Feel free to agree or disagree and give your own thoughts.

Max was irritating but otherwise the series had some really good battles and pokemon and awesome episodes. So it was a good one
