    It's 2019: thirty-one years after World War III and the authority of Neo-Tokyo is waging a constant battle against the Underground rebels. Caught in the middle is a motorcycle gang whose aim is just to make trouble. The gang leader Kaneda gets involved in more ways than one when an experimental psychic child escapes and results in gang member Tetsuo's capture and subsequent experimentation. Tetsuo the "bitter runt" of the pack now has the power of Akira and soon escapes as soon as everyone realizes that his power can result in total destruction of Neo-Tokyo.

    I just finished watching this movie, not even a whole 5 minutes ago, and all I have to say is....wow. That was one graphically stunning movie. I don't know how, but the plot somehow captivated me the entire way and made me focus on it the entire time. The character's personalities were done so well, you would think that they were actually people! It just blew me away, especially how well they showed the power of psychics; believe me, if you've never seen psychics fight each either...its just awesome. And, this movie was published in 1988, the year I was born. Yay. :)
     
    haha lol i rented it last night.... didnt get to finish it yet tho i got to the part where he opens up the thing that says akira and all thats in it is like parts......the blue dudes scare me lol
