4th Gen Alternate Burmy forms

I'm trying to get the Macho Brace, so I need to get all three forms of Burmy. I checked out the Serebii site and found out that the ground and steel forms are available after battling in certain terrains.

I have two questions about this:

1) Do the burmies have to be involved in the battle, or just one of your active pokemon?
2) Any idea what the % chance is that they will change form?

They will always change their forms, and you just need a beach or a cave for the Ground form and a building for the other one. Try the TV Channel building. There's a trainer in the first floor everyday.

I had one in my party and battled in the Ruin Maniac's Cave. It stayed in Grass Form. Do they have to be involved in the battle? Do they have to level up to change form?

For the Steel form, I was going to head to the Resort south of Veilstone, but Jubilife TV building is an option as well.

just put it in the first slot and switch it out, thats what i did.

Yes, it needs to participate in battle. Otherwise, it won't change.
