I'd like to buy a new anime box set, but I don't know which one to buy.
I loved Escaflowne and the storyline of Tales of Symphonia. Are there any animes with similar in-depth,ancient-times,action-adventure,and romance storylines to these two?

(please don't suggest things like inuyasha -they don't really appeal)

    Thanks

I know many people who have watched Neon Genesis Evangelion, and would highly reccommend that. A few of them have compared it to Escaflowne, so you could give it a try. I'd also reccommend Full Metal Panic and its sequal F.M.P. Fumoffu. While they don't really have to do with ancient times, they're pretty funny, and have some romantic aspects.

But you should check Amazon and read about them before you purchase. Hope you like one of them.

I'd suggest El Hazard OVAs, there are two series and both together are about 11 episodes long. It is about an ancient universe called Rushtaria.

I must suggest Neon Genesis Evangelion...Great series. ^.^

Mm...there's Ayashi no Ceres (Ceres: Celestial Legend, in English, I believe...) and I know I really enjoyed that. It's not annoyingly long (24 episodes or so) and it does match most of the genres you listed. ^_^; More info here since I'm just awful at descriptions, but it is a really good anime~

    And Touya is pretty. 8D~

I would definatly go with Fruits Basket. During home renovations, Tohru Honda is living in a tent in the woods because she sdoesn't want to be a bother to her friends. She soon discovers that she is living on one of the Soma households. They take pity on her during a rainstorm and invite her in, but she soon discovers their secret. Members of the Soma household are cursed by members of the Chinese Zodiac. When one of them is taken ill, very tired or embraced by a member of the opposite sex, they change into their zodiac symbol (That has got to create some akward situastions in the bedroom :surprised ). If anyone discovers the secret, their memory is erased. For some reason (I know why, bucause if they did,'t there wouldn't be any story) they let her keep her memory and move in with them.

I have the Wolf's Rain box set, and holy cow it so owns. XD I would highly recommend that anime. I also own Escaflowne so I have a pretty good idea of what you might be looking for in an anime. :3 Wolf's Rain does have a bit of romance and plenty of very touching episodes (yes - I cried XD). There's also humor and it has a very intricate storyline. Though it can get a bit confusing sometimes, so if you do want to or have ever watched it, it's not the smartest idea to watch it out of chronological order. XD
