4th Gen Another Question about EVs

I've been reading about EV training, and I just have a quick question about it. Is EV training usually done after you finish the game? Trying to pick your battles seems impossible unless you've already beat the elite four. If this is the case, does that mean all the pokemon you used to beat the game with are are going to be useless because their EV distribution would be all whack?

Also, can you change the nicknames given to pokemon you get in trades?

Pretty much. And also consider EV training might not come out the way you want even if you do pick and choose.

EV training takes a bit of preparation either way, but there are six berries that make a Poke happy, and lower EVs of their respective stat by 10, kinda like an inverse vitamin. Use those berries until the stats can't drop anymore, and then continue to EV train.

And no...you can not change nicknames given by other trainers.
