    Hi guys,

Just waiting to start playing my first ever Pokémon game - Blue :9: Right now I'm just waiting for the postie to deliver the Game Boy Color I ordered from ebay so that I have something to play it on!

I was wondering whether anyone had any tips for a brand new trainer starting out on a 1st gen game?

    Thanks!

It's arrived! Just getting started now... :cer_boogie:

Not much apart from: Enjoy. :)

Pokémon Blue was my first Pokémon game as well. Good memories. My primary advice would be to carry a couple of Antidotes in the beginning, to prevent your Pokés from fainting by poison. Also, i would advice to share the experience points equally on your team, it makes the game a bit more challenging and fun. Goodluck.

The first gym uses two rock/ground type Pokemon, meaning if you started with Charmander then he won't be very useful there, I'd recommend catching a Caterpie in Viridian Forest and evolving it into Metapod (level 7) then into a Butterfree (level 10), it'll learn confusion at level 12 and be really useful against Brock and the ground/rock type trainers you'll face shortly after passing Pewter City. Getting a Butterfree takes a while but is worth it in my opinion.

If you chose Bulbasaur then you have an advantage against the first two gyms (as the second gym is water) but if you chose Squirtle then you'll be fine against the first gym but I'd recommend trying to catch a Pikachu in Viridian Forest and train it up to use in the second gym battle, your rival will also always open battle with a flying type, so having an electric type to open with will be helpful.

Another helpful hint is that if you send out a Pokemon in battle and switch it out on your first turn it will gain experience and get stronger despite not technically battling, this is a good way to strengthen weak Pokemon.

    Good luck and have fun!

If you need advice, there is an FAQ thread posted. :x And if you have specific questions, you should ask in the Q&A thread.
