Time to do a lot of exploring. If you have the Dowsing app for your Poketch, this helps you find hidden items, and an improvement on the old Itemfinder. Most of the time, caves are places which you need to return to once you have certain HMs. Speak to everyone, go everywhere, return to old places once you have new HMs, the Bike allows access to new areas so return to cave locations once you have this. Repels are helpful if you don't have the patience for all the wild battles on the way, or don't use them if you want to do some levelling/Pokedex building.

Hey thanks for the answer.. I have another Question about EV training..(didnt want to start a new thread) , I have some level 25ish Pokemon so far.. Is it too late to EV train? How do you know how many EV points you have? Thanks alot :D Also, i read about the Macho Brace.. Im still by the first gym, is it too early to get this?

Well, at 25, that Pokemon probably isn't anywhere near full EV-wise, so sure, you can still EV train it. But it's impossible to check EVs in-game, so the only way to know how many you have is to keep detailed records of every Pokemon you fight. It's a pain, I know.

But really, you shouldn't even bother with EV training until you start competitive battling, after you beat the Elite Four. Non-EV'd Pokemon are more than enough to take out your average gym leader. Plus, since you don't have access to every area in the game, the really good training spots are off-limits.

As for the Macho Brace, you can get that when you get to Pastoria City (that should be the fourth or so gym you find). You need the three forms of Burmy to get it, though.

Well, about the EV training, you can start when ever. But level 1 is most perfered. But some of the pokemon that give you an EV is not found within the first gym (Example: a geodude :: Defence (i think or SP. Def.))

    ----EDIT----
yeah... uh airconditioning beat me to it... so sorry...
